HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-292RESOLUTION NO. 02-292 A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLED6IN6 THE RESULTS OF THE NOVEMBER 5, 2002 ELEci,ON PROVIblN6 FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A QUESTION CONCERNIN6 THE CREATION OF A COUNTY-WIDE MUN'rCZPAL SERVICES TAXIN6 UNIT FOR PARKS AND OPEN SPACE WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucia County, Florida, has made the following determinations: i. Section 125.01(y), Florida Statutes, provides the Board of County Commissioners may place questions or propositions on the ballot at any primary election, general election or otherwise called special election so as to obtain an expression of elector sentiment with respect to matters of substantial concern within the County. 2. On September 10, 2002, this Board adopted Resolution No. 02-226 providing for placement of a question concerning the creation of a County-wide municipal services taxing unit to acquire additional pork land and open space, enhance environmentally sensitive land trails and improve and construct porks on the General Election Ballot on November 5, 2002. 3. At the November 5, 2002 Election, the County's voters approved the Parks MSTU question by a vote of 32,658 FOR and 30,478 AE, AINST. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the 8oard of County Commissioners of St. Lucia County, Florida: Based on the results of the November 5, 2002 Election, this Board does hereby direct the County Attorney to advertise a public hearing to consider the adoption of a resolution authorizing the creation of a Parks Municipal Services Taxing Unit. After motion and second, the vote on this resolution was as follows: Chairman Doug Coword Vice Chairman Cliff Barnes Commissioner Paula A.
