HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-103RESOLUTION NO. 03-103 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 15, 2003, AS "EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Plorida, has made the following determinations: 1. Forty years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, women and people of color continue to suffer the consequences of inequitable pay differentials. 2. According to statistics released in September, 2002 by the U. S. Census Bureau, year-round, full-time working women earned only 76% of the earnings of year-round full-time working men; indicating little change or progress in pay equity since 1999. 3. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to recognize the full value of women's skills and significant contributions to the labor force, and further encourages businesses to conduct an internal pay evaluation to ensure women are being paid fairly.
