UPDATE by SLC SherriffOs Office- Major Tighe on behalf of Sheriff Mascara:
Major Tighe reported the current population to be 1293 and the average yearly population at
1287 with 50 Federal Inmates in custody. Major Tighe distributed an article from the Department
of Justice on the survey of jails and prisons which reported 40% of these facilities nationally have
mentally ill inmates which translates St. Lucie County Jail to be at 400 of the population.
Demographics of population have changed from the elder population last year to excessive
gang members and juveniles are on the rise along with opiate arrests. Cases are coming back
for appeal after 30 years which bring its own issues along with that. There is an insurgent of
cocaine and crack cocaine back on the street. Lastly on a side note, Major Tighe reported there
is legislation in Washington DC coming out of California for bail bond reform.

upcoming week the Criminal Justice Division will be fully staffed for the first time in six months.

NEW BUSINESS -
Mr. Romano announced that New Horizons is hosting an Opioid Task Force Meeting in August
and invitations went out to the four counties and he welcomed all around the table to attend.
Update on last legislative session cut funds from the base which will cut services. The exact
number is not known yet. Mr. Romano could not confirm but heard 54 million was swapped out
for opioid use. Mr. Colton asked if anyone else had anything and with that Diamond Litty
requested that Major Tighe get her a list of inmates in the jail that are there for resentencing.
