Enclosed is the Flood Hazard Zone Notice letter, which
must be signed and returned to this office within 15
days. If the form is not returned within 15 days we will
post a Stop Work Order on the job site.
The Post Construction Elevation Certificate is to be
returned as per the Notice, within 21 days from the time
the slab is inspected.

The provisions of this Section, including other specific special design
considerations will apply to all site underground utilities to be ^on-
structed.
Where working room is restricted, the Contractor must provide protection
for privately, owned trees, shrubs and structures F:itnin the easem=_rat or
bordering onn nthe right-of-way ad property lines. The Contractor will
take full re:-)or.sibility fc)r any damage done to private property.
Should it beiiecessary to use a wet-'. point systerr, the discharge of the
system onto lyzd ghboring public or private property cannot be allowed.
Pre Constructsi_on Meeting - It shall be the responsibility of the Gwner
to call for, arrange and coordinate a pre -construction conference
prior to the start of project. This meeting shall be attended by a

HYDRANTS
Shall conform in all respects to AWWA C 502 'latest revision) and shall btr
of the dry barrel "Break Away" type with two rr '.',`_ ✓.,'•<' r v;,@'
each 4-1/2" pumper nozzle. All nozzles shall be threaded, not leaded. The
hydrant shall be provided with an interior valve opening of 5-1/2" with a
brass to brass threaded stationary seat. The center line of the nozzles
shall be 18" above the bury line. In addition, the hydrant shall. be fitted
with a mechanical joint connection per ANSI A 21.11/AWWA C 111 (latest
revision) with a minimum bury of 30". Each branch shall be provided with a
gate valve located as close as possible to the main. Separate fire lines
shall be valved as close as possible to the main and restrained with adequate
thrust blocks. Hydrants shall be located at or near road lines with pumper
discharge nozzle facing the roadway. Hydrants shall be placed so as to
minimize their vulnerability to traffic. All fire hydrants shall be free of
corrosion and all working parts shall be properly lubricated and the hydrant
painted (color to be selected by 'utility company).
Acceptable fire hydrants, conforming to the above specifications are:
Kennedy K-81, Mueller Centurion, American-Darlinq B-62-B, M & H 129.
INSTALLATION
Contractor shall comply with the County Health Department Technical Memo-
randum regarding all water main connections to existing system or lines
already bacteriologically cleared. Installation of water system pipe and
fittings sh<rl, be in accordance
g with AWWA Specifications C600 (latest
revision). Any pavement cut shall be replaced in accordance with require-
ments of the authority governing the area in which the work is done. Water
mains shall be located as shown on plan sheets. One 4'-0" high wood lath
shall be put in earth against plug when service connection is backfil.led,
lath shall extend 18" minimum above grade and shall be broken off at only
by the authorization from the utility company engineer. The tp 6" of the,
stake shall be painted blue: water service - blue.
CLEANING AND FLUSHING
Upon completion of the pipe installation for any section, the mains shall be
thoroughly flushed, care being taken to dispose of the water without causing
a nuisance or property damage. No existing system valves shall be turned on
or off except by utility company personnel. Before flushing of mains,

TESTING

joints, defective pipe, fittings, etc. The Contractor shall at his own
expense, adjust or .replace, at the discretion of the Engineer, any component
or the pipe line which fails the prescribed test. The pipe line shall then
be teste() as Iercrihol ahc.'•: until it successfully conforms to said test.

Cast iron valve boxes shall be provided for all valve boxes installed
underground. The boxes shall be adjustable to fit the depth of earth cover
over the valve and shall be designed so as to prevent the transmission of

of -each section of pi-c will be 20 feet. All PVC pipe and fittings shall
have a pipe stiffness (PS) equal. to 46 P.S.I. minimum and a minimum
modulus of elasticity (E) equal to 400,000 P.S.I. The pipe joints must be
the bell and spigot rubber gasket type, in which the bell portion is an
integral portion of the pipe. PVC pipe and fittings which show signs of
ultra -violet degradation will be considered substandard and unfit for use
in any system to be owned and maintained by the Ut,l,i-y prov,d,n9 service.
Connections at Structures
When PVC pipe is to be connected to manholes and other structure, manhole
couplings corresponding to the size of the sewer pipe must be cast directly
into the structure; the PVC pipe is then inserted into the coupling. For
other material, such as cast iron and vitrified clay, that bond more
readily with concrete, pipe joints are to be provided at the wall face.
Further, where sanitary sewers connect to structures, pipe joints are to be
provided at the wall. face_; and, where the connection is to wet walls or
other installation) where backfill exists below trench grade, one joint
(18 to 20 feet) of cast or ductile iron pipe is to extend outward from the
structure. When it is necessary to extend sewers through structures such
as conflicting elevation storm drain by-passing chambers, the pipe within
must be ductile iron with no inside joints.
Sewer Service Connections

branches installed in the sewer main at the point of connection. This
