Pierce, FL 33450 Re: Lowe's Store Ft. Pierce, FL Dear Mr. Kessler: Please be advised that we are writing in response to your inquiry into the anchor bolt situation at the Lowe's Store in Ft. Pierce, Florida. We have inspected all of the anchor bolts in question. Apparently at three or four column locations, the anchor bolts were not secured properly during the concrete pour and dropped, thereby not leaving the correct projection for anchoring. From a structural standpoint, this is not an unusual situation and has been encountered many times before. In this particular case, we have reviewed and recommended the correct remedy to the structural erector and the project superintendent. The nuts shall be securely tightened as much as possible. The resultant cavity in the nut shall be fully plug welded flush to the top of the nut. This shall sufficiently and properly secure the anchor bolt, nut and column base plate. The important structural point is that the main re- action at these locations iscompressiveor downward into the concrete, in con- trast to an upward or uplift reaction. We hope this fully satisfies your justified concern in this matter. If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to call.
