SCOPE This division of the specifications shall include the furnishings of all materials, equipment and labor necessary for the fabrication and delivery of wood trusses in the building. It shall also include miscellaneous parts including: Bridging; temporary bracing and related items of hardware;metal hangers; anchors; and special metal shapes deemed by the architect, structural engineer or the truss design engineer to be necessary for the proper fabrication and assembly of the wood trusses. 2. WTERIALS A. REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS The wood and fabrication criteria of all prefabricated wood trusses shall meet with National Design Specifications for Stress -Grade Lumber and its Fastenings, by Nations Forest Products Association 1977 revision); Timber Construction Standards, by American Institute of Timber Construction (latest revision); and Design S ecifications for Light Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses, by Truss P ate nstitute 1978 revision , the same as if those specifications and all their references were set out in full herein. E. LLYE ER All lumber used for the truss members shall conform to the published stress rating for the species and Grades set out in the official Grad- ing rules of the appropriate lumber association or as listed in the reference specifications; except that, wherever this specification, or notes on the plans or truss engineering designs calls for lumber which exceeds the minimums set forth therein, the specifications, plans, and/ or truss engineering designs shall be applicable. The moisture content of all lumber shall be within the proper limits, as stated in the reference specifications, but shall not, in any case, exceed 19^ nor be less than 7" at the time of fabrication. C. "V,1' : 7 CTORS Al truss connector plates shall be manufactured from only prime commer- cial quality galvanized sheet metal of no less than 20 gauge thickness which has a minimum yield of 33,000 psi and a minimum ultimate tensile strength of 48,000 psi. The corrosion -resistant coating shall be r-60 commercial class, hot -dipped galvanized before stamping. Where field connections of truss subassemblies are necessary, the connec- tions shall be in accordance with the details shown on the truss design drawings and approved by a professional licensed engineer and architect. Field painting of exposed trusses and metal plate treatments shall be add- ressed in another section of the specifications. 3. ^ESISN ".. All truss designs shall bear the name and seal and/or registered num- ber and state of renistry of a licensed professional engineer. B. P11 truss drawings shall be furnished by the fabricator. All critical dimensions for determining fit and placement shall be approved by the general contractor and architect prior to fabrication. The exposed trusses shall maintain the web and panel points as illustrated or. the bid document. 4. FABRICATION A. All trusses and other roof structural components s^all be fabricated in a properly equipped manufacturing facility of a permanent nature. They shall be manufactured by experienced workmen, using precision cutting and truss assembly methods and under the direct supervision of a quali- fied foreman. All trusses shall be fabricated under the strict rules of the Truss Plate Institute (TPI). B. All truss members shall be accurately cut to length and angle from straight lumber to assure tight joints for finished truss. C. All truss members and connector plates shall be properly placed in jigs and the members tightly clamped in place, remaining in that position until the connector plates have been pressed or rolled intu the lumber simultaneously on both sides of the joints. 5. HANDLING AND ERECTION A. Fabricated trusses and subassemblies shall be handled .pith care so that they are not subject to damage. If the trusses are to be stockpiled or stored prior to erection, they shall be set in the horizontal position, resting upon temporary bearing supports and braced so that they will be subjected to no unusual bending or tipping over. B. During erection, care shall be exercised to keep horizontal bending of the trusses to a minimum. Care must also be taken to install trusses right side un and to have trusses positioned at their respective bearing points as indicated on the truss drawings. C. The permanent structural cross -bracing to insure the overall rigidity of the truss system, shall be in accordance with the architectural plans of the building structure. D. Proper erection bracing shall be installed to hold the trusses true and plumb and in safe condition until permanent truss bracing and bridging can be solidly nailed in place to form a structurally sound framing system. All erection and permanent bracing shall be installed and all components permanently fastened before the application of any loads to the trusses. E. All prefabricated wood trusses are to be installed in accordance with Bracing Wood Trusses Commentary (BWT-76), or HFT-80, as published by the Truss Plate Institute. F. Field erection of the trusses, including items such as proper handling, safety precautions, temporary bracing to prevent toppling or dominoing of the trusses during erection, and any other safeguards or procedures consistent with good workmanship and good building erection practices, shall be the responsibility of the general contractor and/or the framing subcontractor. G. Framing anchors and/or truss hangers shall be provided by the contractor in accordance with the architectural plans. H. SCOPE This division of the specifications shall include the furnishings of all materials, equipment and labor necessary for the fabrication and delivery of wood trusses in the building. It shall also include miscellaneous parts including: Bridging; temporary bracing and related items of hardware; metal hangers; anchors; and special metal shapes deemed by the architect, structural engineer or the truss design engineer to be necessary for the proper fabrication and assembly of the wood 2. MATERIALS A. The moisture content of all lumber shall be within the proper limits, as stated in the reference specifications, but shall not, in any case, exceed 19% nor be less than 7% at the time of fabrication. C. CONNECTORS All truss connector plates shall be manufactured from only prime commer- cial quality galvanized sheet metal of no less than 20 gauge thickness which has a minimum yield of 33,000 psi and a minimum ultimate tensile strength of 48,000 psi. The corrosion -resistant coating shall be G-60 commercial class, hot -dipped galvanized before stamping. 4.'here field connections of :truss subassemblies are necessary, the connec- tions shall be in accordance with the details shown on the truss design drawings and approved by a professional licensed engineer and architect. Field painting of exposed trusses and metal plate treatments shall be add- ressed in another section of the specifications. 3. DESIGN A. All truss designs shall bear the name and seal and/or registered num- ber and state of registry of alicensed professional engineer. B. All truss drawings shall be furnished by the fabricator. All critical dimensions for determining fit and placement'shall be approved by the general contractor and architect tect prior to fabrication. The exposed trusses shall maintain the web and panel points as illustrated on the bid document. 4. FABRICATION A. All trusses and other roof structural components shall be fabricated in aproperly equipped manufacturing facility of a permanent nature. They shall be manufactured by experienced workmen, using precision cutting and truss assembly methods and under the direct supervision of a quali- fied foreman. All trusses shall be fabricated under the strict rules of the Truss Plate Institute (TPI). B. All truss Fo,-: !>ers shall be accurately cut to length and angle straight lur,er to assure tight joints for finished truss. C. All truss members and connector plates shall be properly placed in jigs and the members tightly clamped in place, remaining in that position until the connector plates have been pressed or rolled into the lumber simultaneously on both sides of the joints. 5. HANDLING AND ERECTION A. Fabricated trusses and subassemblies shall be handled with care so that they are not subject to damage. If the trusses are to be stockpiled or stored prior to erection, they shall be set in the horizontal position, resting upon temporary bearing supports and braced so that they will be subjected to no unusual bending or tipping over. B. During erection, care shall be exercised to keep horizontal bending of the trusses to a minimum. Care must also be taken to install trusses right side up and to have trusses positioned at their respective bearing points as indicated on the truss drawings. C. The permanent structural cross -bracing, to insure the overall rigidity of the truss system, shall be in accordance with the architectural r1an,' of the building structure. D. Proper erection bracing shall be installed to hold the trusses true and plumb and in safe condition until permanent truss bracing and bridging can be solidly nailed in place to form a structurally sound framing system. All erection and permanent bracing shall be installed and all components permanently fastened before the application of any loads to the trusses, E. All prefabricated wood trusses are to be installed in accordance with Bracing Wood Trusses Commentary (BWT-76), or HFT-80, as published by the Truss Plat Institute. F. Field erection of the trusses, including items such as proper handling, safety precautions, temporary bracing to prevent toppling or dominoing of the trusses during erection, and any other safeguards or procedures consistent with good workmanship and good building erection practices, shall be the responsibility of the general contractor and/or the framing subcontractor. G. Framing anchors and/or truss hangers shall be provided by the cst.tractoi in accordance with the architectural plans. H.
