Installation Instructions
STEP 1:
ATTACH THE HEADER LOCK BRACKET TO THE
HEADER USING THE (4) 5/16"xi-5/8" LAG
SCREWS PROVIDED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1.
THE HEADER LOCK BRACKET SHOULD BE IN
LINE WITH THE INTERMEDIATE HINGES WHERE
THE POST IS TO BE INSTALLED AND LOCATED
SUCH THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE BRACKET IS
APPROXIMATELY 2-1/2" ABOVE THE TOP OF
THE DOOR.
NOTE: DRYWALL OR ANY OTHER SACRIFICIAL
MATERIAL COVERING THE HEADER .MUST BE
REMOVED PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE HEADER
LOCK BRACKET AND REPLACED WTH THE SAME
THICKNESS OF WOOD. IF THIS PROCESS IS
REQUIRED, THE LENGTH OF THE LAG SCREWS
MUST BE INCREASED ACCORDINGLY TO INCLUDE
THE THICKNESS OF THE WOOD SO THAT A
MINIMUM OF 1-1/2" OF LAG SCREW
PENETRATION INTO THE HEADER IS
MAINTAINED.
STEP 2:
ALIGN THE LARGE DIAMETER HOLE IN THE TOP
PLATE EXTENSION WITH THE THIRD HOLE IN
THE TOP LOCK PLATE AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1
FOR MODELS
5120/5145/9100/9405/9600/9605 OR THE
MIDDLE HOLE AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2. ALIGN
THE ASSEMBLY OVER THE TOP OF THE INNER
POST AND SECURE WITH (4) 5/16-12xi" SELF
DRILLING SCREWS THROUGH THE HOLES
PROVIDED IN THE TOP LOCK PLATE, SLIDE
THE OPPOSITE END OF THE INNER POST INTO
ONE END OF THE OUTER POST.
STEP 3:
PLACE THE POST ASSEMBLY FROM STEP 2
INTO POSITION BY LOWERING THE TOP PLATE
EXTENSION INTO THE NOTCH IN THE HEADER
LOCK BRACKET UNTIL THE TOP PLATE
EXTENSION SEATS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE
NOTCH. ALLOW THE OUTER POST TO SLIDE
DOWN THE INNER POST UNTIL THE BOTTOM OF
THE OUTER POST RESTS ON THE FLOOR.
PLUMB THE POST ASSEMBLY.
STEP 4:
ENSURING THE POST ASSEMBLY IS PLUMB,
TRACE THE OUTLINE OF THE BOTTOM OF THE
OUTER POST ON THE FLOOR. REMOVE THE
POST ASSEMBLY AND SET ASIDE UNTIL STEP
5. LOCATE THE CENTER OF THE TRACED
OUTLINE BY CONNECTING THE CORNERS TO
FORM AN 'X'. AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE
"X", DRILL A 5/8" DIAMETER HOLE A MINIMUM
OF 3-1/2" DEEP INTO THE FLOOR. CLEAN
DUST OUT OF HOLE.
STEP 5:
ASSEMBLE THE BOTTOM LOCK PLATE BY
SLIDING (1) 1/2-13x3-1/2" BOLT DOWN
THROUGH THE TOP THE BRACKET AND
SECURING WITH THE HEX NUT FROM BELOW.
ATTACH THE BOTTOM LOCK PLATE TO THE
BOTTOM OF THE OUTER POST WITH (4)

Based on wind load test results for the FBC approved doors with paper/poly backer, the following
evaluation will estimate the performance for similar size doors with equal wind load design pressures but
steel backer design. The following doors under evaluation will be included on the latest revision of FL
9174.
The following report evaluates the new overall door/component design as it compares to the door &
components Florida product approval.
II. Reference Material
The following items were used to prepare the evaluation report:
A. Florida Product Approval, FL 9174
B. Wayne Dalton Drawing No.253209, Rev P2, Backer Paper/ Poly
C. Wayne Dalton Drawing No. 253211, RevP1, Backer Steel
D. Wayne Dalton Drawing No. XN17019, Dated 5/8117, Raw Assy Detail, 9100 vs 9605
E. Evaluation Report, John E. Scates, P.E., dated June 10, 2011
III. Evaluation
A. Wind Load Design
The following analysis is for 20 different door configurations. All of the configurations listed in FL 9174
were approved with a paper/poly material (69# Kraft with 1 Mil off white PE) per WD drawing 253209.
These doors were tested at an accredited laboratory according to ANSI/DASMA 108-2002 and
ANSI/DASMA 115-2005. ANSI/DASMA 108-2002.is equivalent to ANSI/DASMA 108-2012 and
ANSI/DASMA 115-2005 is equivalent to ANSI/DASMA 115-2012.
The following evaluation will substitute the paper/ poly material with a 32 gauge steel back per WD
drawing 153211. The profile dimensions for both material types are identical. Since the mechanical
properties for steel exceed that for the paper/ poly material, I would calculate that the deflection and wind
load resistance for the steel back -plate would be equal or better than the currentlyapproved
configurations.
B. Product Comparisons
The following chart shows the sectional doors that were tested & approved by the statewide
Florida Product Approval and the change to the new backer material design.

Table I — Doors under Evaluation
C. Conclusion
Comparing the doors under evaluation against the Florida approved doors, I. calculate that the doors
and hardware under evaluation will be subjected to an equal or lower load and will perform equal or
better than the approved doors:
The drawings cited above are an explicit part of this evaluation report. The text of this report can not
address all design details (fastener size, spacing) but relies upon the illustrations of these drawings.
I conclude that the construction shown comply with the structural requirements of the 5'h Edition
(2014) and 61h Edition (2017) of the Florida Building Code.
Certification of Independence of Evaluation Entity
I hereby certify that (1)1 have no financial interest in Overhead Door Corporation; (2)1 am an independent licensed Professional
Engineer in the State of Florida and; (3)1 comply with the criteria of independence as stated in 61 G20-3.009 (3), F.A.C. and
