The wooden decking started to rot, and I stepped through it in one area. I decided to replace the deck material and removed the old decking: Once I had the decking removed, I discovered that four of the original stringers were also rotted and the brackets for the stringers were rusted and coming loose. Therefore, these stringers and the brackets will need to be replaced. The existing footings, supports, and the balance of the stringers are in good condition and will be re -used. I understand that I will now need a permit to complete this work due to replacement of these stringers. I have the original approved drawings and permit that was issued to me when I first built the deck.
