The product may also be used for conduit, decking and cladding. Referto our architectural specification for more details. Technical Data: Color Specific Gravity pH Range Weight/Gal Hazardous Ingredients Volume Solids Weight Solids Viscosity Flammability VOC. Application Conditions: Contego PFB is designed to be applied by spray application and should only be applied by brush or roller for touch up purposes. Contego PFB should not be applied when the relative humidity exceeds 80% or the surface to be coated is less than 40'F (S' Q or less than 15' F (-9* Q above the current or forecasted dew point. The product is best applied when ambient temperatures are between 50°F (10" C) and 95°F (35" Q. While the product can be applied at lower temperatures, viscosity maybe a problem and, if applied at higher than recommended temperatures, there may be a risk of runs or sags. Once applied and cured, extremely low or high temperatures should not be a problem. On combustible substrates such as dimensional lumber, manufactured wood (Oriented Strand Board, Particle Board, Plywood, etc.), Polyurethahe foam, and drywall (GW B) a primer is not required but may be useful if: Dimensional Lumber The wood is very old and/or dry and would likely absorb too much of the Contego coating. Manufactured Wood The substrate is very old and/or dry or if the resin content is unusually high. Polyurethane Foam The foam is soy -based or made from other organics that emit a vegetable oil. Drywall (GWB) The drywall has been previously painted with oil -based (alkyd) paint or if you're not sure. On structural steel and other metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, or composites, -a primer is always required. No exceptions have been observed regarding what kind or brand of primer can be used. Even inexpensive shop primer has shown no incompatibilities. However, doing a test patch is always recommended with any new combinations of primer and our product since it is impossible to have tested every product from every manufacturer. Drying & Cure Times at Standard Ambient Temperature and Humidity: As with any latex coating, drying time is always a function of ambient temperature, ambient humidity and how thickly the coating was applied. However, at 60°F (15' C) with a relative humidity of 70%, a 20 mil (500µ) wet coat should be dry to touch within 3 hours, completely dry in 6 hours and dried hard enough to handle in 8 hours. While our specifications call for a 72 hour cure time, the product is active as soon as it is hard dried. DON apply additional coats until you are sure the underlying coats are completely dry. Applying additional coats on top of product that still has moisture may cause the finish to crack and, if enough moisture is trapped under a surface film, the entire finish may delaminate and fall off. Top coating is recommended and permitted after the total number of required thickness of Contego has been applied and completely dried. HS Product Advantages: • Exceptional protection from heat and fire. • Smooth, thin, architectural grade finish. • Top mat with whatever you prefer alkyds, acrylics or lacquer- • Big Plus - with HS apply half as many coats with the some coverage. • Nontoxic, nondermatic and nonmrcfnagenfc latex. • Can be to steel and other material during pre -applied g fabrication and Is easy to repair"' ' • Designed specif tally for sprayer application. That's because the paper fascia on gypsum wallboard, even fire rated GWB, is PAPER - paper coated with flammable paint. (Not only is it an enormous fuel source, it may also be toxic in a fire.) Once the paper bums off, the gypsum goes to work protecting the substrate; but initially, the painted paper fascia will flare and can wildly accelerate temperature rise and trigger flashover in adjoining rooms. By using a standard GWB and applying a coating of Contego fire barrier intumescent latex paint, you achieve superior drywall fire protection and approach the parameters of a "Type X" rating. A 10 mil DFT (dry film thickness) coat of Contego adds 55 minutes of bum time to any layer of GWB. Contego protects the paper fascia while maintaining a flame spread and smoke production rating of Ox0. To receive the "Type X" designation under ASTM C 36, a gypsum board product must be shown to achieve not less than a one -hour fire resistance rating for 5/8" board or a 3/4-hour fire resistance rating for 1 /2" board applied in a single layer, when tested in accordance with the requirements of ASTM E 119, Methods of Fire Test of Building Constructions and Materials. Contego is super thin, paper smooth and wonderfully aesthetic. Contego has a pleasant scent, zero VOC's, and is completely non -toxic, both in the can and during a bum. Contego can be top coated with whatever you like, so let your imagination run wild. According to our test results from leading independent fire testing laboratories, top coating Contego doesn't hurt our fire resistance - it actually improves it by as much as 32%1 Forget about rescheduling other trades during your project. Contego has no health risks and is completely inoffensive. http://contegointemational.com/applications/drywall/ 4/8/2014 I! Drywall Fire Protection I Contego International Inc. Various material samples with the intumescent fire protection coating were tested at Southwest Research Institute'? (SwR?j Department of Fire Technology located in San Antonio, Texas, on January 4, 2005. This report only documents the test on the sample described below. Testing was conducted in general accordance with ASTM E 119. The test deviated from the requirements of ASTM E 119 in sample size, number of unexposed temperature measurements, and application of the hose stream test. The results presented in this report apply only to the material tested, in the manner tested, and not to any similar materials or material combinations. SAMPLE DESCRIPTION - S WRI received one 32- x 60-in. sample on November 4, 2004, identified by Contego International, Inc. as V-338. The sample was received in a ready -to -test condition with the intumescent fire, protection coating applied to one side. The side with the intumescent fire protection coating was exposed to the furnace conditions. The sample was tested simultaneously with other samples not included in this report. Selected photographs of the test samples installed in the test frame during, and after the test, and are located in Appendix A. INSTRUMENTATION Instrumentation consisted of three thermocouples (TCs) constructed with No. 20 B & S gage, Type K (Chromel Alumel) welded TCs, placed under flexible, dry, felted mineral fiber pads. The wire leads of the TCs terminated under the pads and were in contact with the unexposed surface. The pads were attached firmly to the surface to minimize any heat loss from the sides. Temperature levels were monitored continuously at 15-sec intervals throughout the test and recorded with computer data acquisition equipment for subsequent data reduction. The location of the unexposed surface TCs is provided in Appendix B, Test Assembly Drawings. This reportis for the udonre6on of the dlen1. SwRI Final Report No. 01.10084.01.705f January 31, 2004 Page 2 TEST RESULTS The test sample was installed onto a test wall fixture and tested for 1 hr 44 min 45 sec on SwRI's large vertical furnace. Ambient conditions at the start of the test were 78°F and 61% relative humidity. The fire exposure closely approximated standard fire curve specified in ASTME 119. Sustained flaming on the unexposed side was observed at 1 hr 39 min 55 sec. The sample exceeded the ASTM E 119 temperature criteria at 1 hr 25 min 15 sec into the test. Appendix C includes the temperature versus time curve for the measured furnace average and the standard curve plotted together. The graphical and tabular test data collected is also located in Appendix C. Enclosed please find the photographic documentation of the tests on a compact disc and video documentation on VHS tape.
