We submit this letter to address the SLC Inspection comments attached hereto. 1. Use of Simpson Strong -Tie Girder Hanger, Type HGUM5.25-SDS: The HGUM5.25 Girder Hanger was specified by me, shortly after submitting signed and sealed construction plans to the Contractor for his use in filing a Building permit application. I proposed use of the HGUM5.25 hanger, as an alternative to the Masonry Hanger, Type MBHA, specified in the signed and sealed construction plans. I proposed use of the HGUM5.25 hanger to improve ease of construction and provide a superior framing connection for the 2 -ply LVL beam connection to the existing house concrete tie beam. The modified Wood Framing Connector Schedule witch included the alternative hanger was not incorporated into the signed and sealed construction plan set (dated: July 21, 2017) submitted by the Contractor to SLC Building Department. The Contractor choose to use the alternative HGUM5.25 Girder Hanger, as provided in the Wood Framing Connector Schedule submitted to the Contractor after submittal of the signed and sealed Construction Plan Set to the Contractor. A copy of the modified Wood Framing Connector Schedule is included on Sheet 4 within the enclosed SUPPLEMENTAL Drawings. Based on inspection performed by me, October 26, 2017, the HGUM5.25x-SDS Girder Hanger has been properly installed. The New 2 -ply LVL patio beam attachment to the House at the "right" side: The new 2 -ply LVL patio beam is connected to the existing house concrete tie beam on the North (right) side, using a Simpson Strong -Tie Girder Hanger, Type HGUM5.25-SDS, the same connection installed at the south (left) 2 -ply LVL patio beam. There is no "angle attachment" installed. Based on inspection performed by me, October 26, 2017, two (2) HGUM5.25x-SDS Girder Hangers have been properly installed, which meet conformance with Simpson Strong -Tie specifications, and requirements stipulated in the signed and sealed Construction Plans prepared by my office. Plans Examiner/Building Inspector St. Lucie County Code Compliance Division SLC Permit No. SLC -1707-0433, Confirmation No. C-602 7280 Reserve Creek Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL 34986 Response to SLC Inspection Comments of New LVL Patio Roof Beam Installation November 6, 2017 Page 2 of 2 Section A -A shows LVL beams with end bearing point: The new 2 -ply LVL beams were designed for end bearing support in conformance with Boise Cascade product specifications, which is consistent with AITC standards. The existing LVL butt-joint/lap occurring at the center column shall be modified with splice cover plates as detailed in the attached SUPPLEMENTAL LVL Beam Field Splice Detail drawings. SLC inspection should be performed following completion of the two LVL Field Splices. 4. Nuts are not tight @ Beam connection center bearing: Thru-bolt connection at all columns should be "snug -tightened" in conformance with AISC Standards (RCSC Specification, Section 8.1). All Thru-bolt connections between aluminum tube column to aluminum base plate and column caps must be provided with a helical spring lock washer as specified in the approved permitted Construction Plans (see Sheet S-6). This letter, bearing my seal and signature, is being submitted to the St. Lucie County Code Compliance Division together with the enclosed SUPPLEMENTAL Drawings (4 sheets, formatted 11"x17") to document my review and approval of the LVL framing connection at the existing house, provide supplemental construction details to correct the LVL butt joint/lap splice, and clarify bolting requirements for the column thru-bolts. Should the SLC Inspection Department have any questions following their final inspection of the subject Patio Roof Beam reconstruction work, please let us know by contacting my office. Respectfully submitted, Timothy C. Boudah, P.E. State of Florida Registration No. 63179 Enclosures: 1. Copy of SLC Inspection Card (undated) 2.
