Hi Debbie, I didn’t know anything about this letter until we failed inspection, so I emailed Doug
Harvey about it and
he explained it. So I emailed Melanie at FPL and she approved the tankless water heater at this
location – below is
the email sent to Doug & Dave. Will this email suffice?
Thanks!
Cheri

Doug,
There is no issue with having a tankless water heater at the location. Thank you

Yes, this is a requirement. It is not the Florida Building Code, it is the FPL Electric Service

system. Your electrician should be able to contact the engineer for the area or use the FPL
contractor construction portal to obtain the approval. The power company is aware of it.

Hello gentlemen, our newest model is being built with a Tankless Water Heater and one of our
superintendents was just instructed by an inspector that she needs a letter from FPL stating
that they will “allow” us to use this type of water heater. This leads to many questions I need
answered:
1st question - why would FPL have any say in what type of water heater we use?
2nd question – if this is actually accurate, is this a Florida Code that says the power company
needs to approve it?
3rd question – who am I supposed to get this letter from at FPL?
4th question – what exactly is this letter supposed to say?
Please advise.
Thanks so much!
Cheri
