Pierce, FL 34982 RE: Permit #2010-0157 Roof inspection and findings - In -progress Inspection 3220 West Lake Drive, Fort Pierce, FL 34982 Parcel ID: 2427-603-0038-000-3 To whom may concern - Building Permit Specialist, Date: October 19, 2020 This letter is provided to confirm the findings from my inspection at the subject property to support the permit request for the new roof that was previously installed. In summary, the replacement roof complies with all applicable sections of the 2017 FBC Residential, Section 905, and 2017 FBC Existing Building, Section 706 requirements. On September 29th this year, I, Gregory J. Bertaux, P.E., personally inspected the roof recently installed at 3220 West Lake Drive. I inspected the roof from the exterior using an extension ladder and fully walked all sections of the roof surface. At the edge of roof, I lifted a section of roof shingles to verify the underlayment and nailing of the shingles. Following that, I entered the attic to inspect and verify the materials used for the new roof and quality of workmanship. I also used my Zircon metal detector to identify the number of nails securing each board to the rafters. Additionally, the property owner had, inside their storage shed, left over roofing materials including the manufacturer's packaging to confirm FL product approvals. From my detailed inspection 1 am provided attached photos and determined the following: General Information The subject property (single family house) was built in 1956. The structure has a simple roof with a gable at the right and left sides. The roof covers approximately 1200 sq.ft. of the house's rectangular footprint. The slope/pitch of the roof is 3:12 and it has an asphalt shingle covering. The roof appears to be very new and is in excellent condition. Roof Sheathing 1. The roof deck is original to the structure built in 1956. The deck is comprised of wooden plank boards 6" x 3/". The attachment of the deck boards has been upgraded and each board is secured with two (2) 8d nails to each roof framing member it crosses. Page 1 of 3 Underlayment 1. The underlayment is TAMKO No. 15, Asphalt Saturated Organic Felt that complies with ASTM D226, Type I. There are two layers of underlayment that are attached with corrosion resistant cap nails on 6" centers. The double layer of underlayment provides compliance with 2017 FBC for roofs having a slope between 2:12 and 4:12 pitch. Roof Covering 1. The new roof covering is comprised of three -tab, fiberglass asphalt shingles. The property owner had spare shingles in a storage shed that included the manufacturer's packaging and labeling. 2. The shingles installed in the field of the roof are: Tamko Tuscaloosa shingles that are Miami/Dade approved and Florida product approved. 3. The shingles installed on the ridge of the roof are: Tamko Joplin 12 X X 12 Hip and Ridge shingles that are Miami/Dade approved and Florida product approved. 4. The fasteners used for the shingles are corrosion resistant nails with six (6) nails used to secure each single. Roof Flashings and drip edges 1. All flashings are in acceptable condition 2. All drip edges along the roof eaves are metal and in good condition. The drip edges are overlapped at least 3 inches and extend 3 inches below the sheathing. Additionally, the drip edges extend back on the roof at least 2 inches and is under the top layer of the underlayment. The drip edge is nailed to the roof deck on 6" centers. Thank you, Gregory J.
