INTRODUCTION NTA,Inc.evaluated the,structural performance of the 64:25=in.x 69.50-in.1'remier Double Doors(Reinforced)provided by Handy Howie Products of Warren,Michigan, All tests were conducted'at the NTA Test,Laboratory located'in Nappanee,Indiana. The: purpose,of this evaluation.is to assess the structural performance:of door when sub�ected to simulated negative,and positive wind pressure in.accordance with ASTM.E 330, Standard Test.Methods for:Structural Performance of Exterior Windows,Doors, SWIghts,and Curtain Wall by Uniform Static Air Pressure Diffierence; The test parameters are summarized in Table 1,below. Accordingly.,the test setup consists of a vacuum chamber'with a vertical open side that is sized to accommodate thetest assembly. A reversible vacuum pump and manometer connection provide amearis to apply and monitor the.applied pressure. The uniform pressures are applied in both.directions across the door(positive/negative) by reversing the installation of the door in the•setup. As a result,the vacuum chamber is always operated at a negative pressure differential. For positive pressure testing,the door is installed to open outward from the vacuum chamber with the pressure applied in a direction that tends to'close"the door. For negative pressure testing the assembly is reversed so that the pressure is applied'in a direction tending to`open'the doors. To seal each specimen,a 2 mil polyethylene film is placed loosely over the assembly; The film is pleated at each.corner and at all offsets and recesses so o fillet develops in the plastic. Instrumentation consists of water manometer and dial indicators. The water manometer has a resolution of 0.1 inches of water for;pressures up to;+52 inehesof water. Dial indicators,with it resolution of 0.001-in.,are positioned at the latch and unsupported: cantilever ends of each door Ieaf. For testing,a pre-load of one half of the specified pressure is,applied`and.held for 10 seconds. The pre-JOad is released and after a recovery period of between 1 and 5 minutes the dial gauge,reference readings are taken. The test load is then applied,held for not less than l0 seconds,and released.Dial gauge readings are taken while the test load is applied and then again after the,load has been.released for not less than 5 minutes, This .procedure is repeated a total of 4 times;positive test load,negative test load,positive proof load,and negative proof load. The proof load is equal to the test load multiplied by a factor of safety. At anytime during the test,when the behavior of the specimen under load indicates,that sudden failure may occur,the dial indicators may be removed. If ultimate.is reached,.the peak pressure and.mode of failure are noted. Upon successful-completion.of the negative proof load,the door is checked for-proper operation. 3. TEST RESULTS_ A total of three specimens were tested using the procedure outlined;herein. Each specimen was tested underboth positive and negative pressures. The positive pressure was applied in a direction tending.to`close'the doors,whereas the negative pressure was applied'in a direction tending to`open'the doors. A summary of the test results are provided in Table 3 with detailed test data provided in the Appendix. All specimens behaved similarly under the applied loads as evidenced by the measured deflections. No,failure or yielding was observed and.ihe residual deflections under the test and proof loads di¬ exceed the deflection limit.specified in Table 1. CONCLUSION NTA,Inc.evaluated the.struotural performance of the 64.254n:x 69 504n.Premier Double Doors(Reinforced)provided by Handy Home Products. The purpose of-this evaluation is to assess the structural performance of the door when subjected to simulated negative and positive wind pressures in accordance with Procedure A of ASTM E.3301. Specimens were tested under the negative and positive chamber pressuresas provided Table 3,below. Furthermore,the residual deflections did not excee&the specified:limit given in');al le 1.
