(NE) has completed the observation of the helical pier installation operations at the above referenced site in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Eastern Structural Services, Inc. (ESSI) installed 15 piers on October 20, 2020. We note that pier 11 was not installed due to access issues and utilities around the existing A/C unit. The piers size and depth anticipation were based upon our review of prior boring log information by AMEC dated January 11, 2013 performed in the area and the structural engineer recommendations. The installation characteristics of each pier are presented in the attached Helical Pier Installation Data. Identification of each pier location followed by the pier number are shown on the Helical Pier Location Plans attached. Each pier record in the attached summary tables shows the following information: ■ RECORD NUMBER IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER ■ THE HELICAL PIER NUMBER (AS FOUND ON ATTACHED PLANS) ■ LENGTH OF PIER FROM GROUND SURFACE TO TIP ■ THE INSTALLATION TIME ■ THE DATE OF INSTALLATION ■ THE HELICAL PIER TYPES ■ AND GENERAL COMMENTS AS NEEDED The piers were designed for an allowable compressive capacity of 10 tons as indicated on the structural plans. The helical piers were installed to depths of twenty-seven to forty feet below the existing ground surface where torque conditions or refusal on the hard limestone formation. The drilling operations were monitored in the field by our field inspector in order to approximately evaluate the type of material being penetrated. 1310 Neptune Drive • Boynton Beach, Florida 33426 • (561) 736-4900 • Fax (561) 737-9975 Broward (954) 941-8700 • Port St. Lucie (772) 408-1050 • Miami Dade (305) 624-0060 The piers achieved their design capacity based on a predetermined hydraulic pressure amount indicated on a ft-lbs guage observed in the field during installation or refusal on the limestone formation, whichever occurred first. The piers consisted of a lead seven, which was a 2-7/8-inch round shaft with one 10-inch helix at the tip, one 12-inch helix at thirty inches from the tip, and one 14-inch helix at sixty inches from the tip. The helices were attached at the first shaft and additional five or seven foot, 2-7/8-inch diameter round shafts with no helixes were added to the pier until capacity was achieved. Upon completion of this inspection process, and review of the recorded data, it is our opinion that the helical piers installed at this time attained the required design compressive capacity of 10 tons for the proposed construction. The piers were also constructed in compliance with the plans and specifications. We note that it was monitored and ensured that the piers began installation at the survey locations provided in the field. If during drilling operations it was discovered that gross deviations from original locations have occurred, the deviation was attempted to be rectified. Nutting Engineers is not responsible for minor deviations, which have occurred during installation operations, along with incorrect surveyed pier locations during pier installation. This condition is beyond the control of the site inspector and undersigned engineer.
