DESCRIPTION; PBU Panel - a 36", wide, through -fastened, structural, metal wall panel, available in 29-ga. (0.015), 26-ga.. (.019), 24-ga. (0.023"), and 22-ga. (0.029"). PBU is typically applied over open framing. CODE CRITERIA: Florida Building Code 2004 CHAPTER 22 STEEL SECTION 2209 ---- - ---COl.i-FORMED-S'EEL---- -- ---------- ----------------------------- 2209.1 Regular cold formed steel. The design of cold -formed carbon or low alloy steel structural members shall be in accordance with the North American Specification for the Design of Cold -Formed Steel Structural Members (AISI- IVASPFC). The design of cold -formed stainless -steel structural members shall be in accordance with ASCE 8. See attached Section Properties and Allowable Uniform Load tables. Sep 07 07 10:46a Mark Ryan (904)241-9082 p.6 AISI 2001 North American Specification for the Design of Cold -Formed Steel Structural Members (NASPEC 2001) Sections Applying to Walt Panel Design Values Commentary on NASPEC 2001 C. MEMBERS This Chapter provides the design requirements for (a) tension members, (b) flexural members, (c) concentrically loaded compression members, (d) combined axial load and bending, and (e) cylindrical tubular members. To simplify the use of the Specfcaddn, all design provisions for a given specific member type have been assembled in a particular section within the Specification. In general, a common nominal strength [resistance] equation is provided in the Specification for a given limit state with a required factor of safety (Q) for allowable strength design (ASD) and a resistance factor ((p) for load and resistance factor design (LRFD). C1. Properties of Sections The geometric properties of a member (i.e., area, moment of inertia, section modulus, radius of .gyration, etc.,) are evaluated using conventional methods of structural design. The properties are based upon either full crass -section dimensions, effective widths or, net section, as applicable. For the design of the tension members, the net section is employed when computing the nominal tensile strength of the axially loaded tension members. For flexural members and axially loaded compression members, both full and effective dimensions are used to compute sectional properties. The full dimensions are used when calculating ihe_critic al load or moment, while the effective dimensions, evaluated at the stress corresponding to the critical load, or moment, are used to calculate the nominal strength. For deflection calculation, the effective dimension should be determined for the compressive stress in the - element corresponding to the service load, Pekoz (1986a and 9986b) discussed this concept in more detail. Section 3 of Part I of the AISI Design Manual (AISI, 2003) deals with the calculation of sectional properties for C-sections, Z-sections, angles, hat sections, and decks.. C2. Tension Members Sep 07 07 10;46a Mark Ryan (904)241-9082 p.7 The design provisions of this section are given in Section C2 of the Appendices . C3. Flexural Members For the design of cold -formed steel flexural members, consideration should be given to several design features: (a) bending strength and serviceability, (b) shear strength of webs and combined bending and shear, (c) web crippling strength and combined bending and web crippling, and (d) bracing requirements.. For some cases, special consideration should also be given to shear lag and flange curling due to the use of thin material. The design provisions for Items (a), (b), and (c) are provided in Specification Section C3, while the requirements for lateral bracing are given in Specifrca#on Section D3. The treatments for flange curling and shear lag were discussed in Section 131.1 (b) and (c) of the Commentary, respectively. Example problems are given in Part 11 of the Manual (AISI, 2002). for the design of flexural members. C3.11 Bending C3.2 Shear C3.3 Combined Bending and Shear C3.4 Web Crippling Sep 07 07 10:47a' Mark Ryan (904)241-9082 .: LIMITATIONS OF USE FOR NON -HIGH VELOCITY HURRICANE ZONES Substrate: Steel Substrate Description: Structural members or sheathing designed by a Florida registered professional engineer and meeting the requirements of FBC 2004.. Substrate Attachment Designed by FL P.E. and in accordance with - FBC 2004. Fire Barrier. (Optionao Ye Georgia Pacific "Dens Deck", or 518" water resistant type X gypsum sheathing with treated core and facer, or manufacturer approved equal. Insulation: per manufacturer's instructions. Minimum Substrate Thickness: Designed by FL P.E. and in accordance with FBC 2004. Application: Install PBU Panel per the manufacturers approved details. Design Procedure: Based on the dimensions of the structure, appropriate loads are determined using Chapter 16 of the FBC.. Loads include, positive and negative wind load. These loads are compared to the Allowable Uniform Load Chart in order to determine the appropriate panel spanffastener spacing. Based on the tributary area of the attachment, the fastener load is determined. The fastener load is compared to the allowable fastener capacity (pullout and pullover) from the fastenermanufacfurees data sheet based on the substrate used. An appropriate factor of safety is applied to the calculation. If the initial fastener spacing is too great, it is reduced until the fastener capacity is shown to be adequate. Fastener spacings are typically reduced in the edge zones of the structure to account for greater wind loads.. NOY 0 3 2005 Sep 07 07 10:47a Mark Ryan (904)241-9082 p.9 ,, APPENDIX 1. Prior to ordering panels, all dimensions should be confirmed by field measurement. II. Job Site Storage and Handling A. Check the shipment against the shipping list. B. Damaged material must be noted on bill of lading. C. Panels should be handled carefully. A spreader bar of appropriate length is recommended for hoisting. D. Check to see that moisture has not formed inside the bundles during shipment. If moisture is present, panels should be wiped dry, then restacked and loosely covered so that air can circulate between the panels. Ill. Application Checklist A. Check substructure for proper alignment and uniformity to avoid panel distortion. B. Periodic check of panel alignment is crucial to proper panel installation. C. For proper appearance, ribs should line up at hips, valleys and ridges. D. Panels should be cut on ground to minimize cut filings on roof. Keep panels clean during installation. Do not allow panels to come into contact with water runoff from lead, copper or graphite. 32 SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE SEE www.mbci.com FOR CURRENT INFORMATION EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 28, 2002 Sep 07 07 10:54a Mark Ryan (904)241-9082 p.21 Metal Roof and Wall Systems H0u3fD¢ 6nff rJ4 774 Lbhod4 M. p'm a56S224 Rome, NY.
