Currently, truss webs are braced using one of three methods, continuous lateral bracing, `T' bracing, and scab bracing. Scab bracing is the strongest method of bracing a truss and may be used instead of `T' _bracing and lateral bracing. Scab bracing always follows these criteria: 1.) The scab material must be the same size and grade of the web being braced. 2.) The scab may be installed to either face of the web for 80% of the web length using 1Od nails 4" O.C. 3.) When scab bracing is specified on the engineering, no other method may be used. 4.) Scab bracing may be substituted for `T' bracing and lateral bracing. `T' bracing is the next strongest method of bracing and may be substituted for lateral bracing only. Generally, a `T' brace consists of a Ix4 installed on either 1'/Z" edge of the web. If a web is specified for two lateral braces then either two lx4 `T' braces or a 2x4 `T' brace may be substituted. `T' braces follow these criteria: 1.) The `T' brace must posses the same structural characteristics'ofthe web being braced, lx4 #3 pine or equal or 2x4 SPF. 2.) `T' braces may be installed to either edge of the web and must be 80% of the web length. 3.) lx4 `T' braces must be installed using 8d nails 4" O.C. minimum. 4.) 2x4 `T' braces must be installed using IOd nails 4" O.C. minimum. 5.) `T' braces may be substituted for lateral braces. Continuous lateral bracing is the most economical method of bracing a roof system. This method may only be used when there are at least three trusses possessing the same web or web pattern in a continuous line. Lateral bracing follow these criteria: 1.) The lateral brace must posses the same structural characteristics of the web being braced, lx4 #3 pine or equal or 2x4 SPF. 2.) The lateral brace must be installed as close to the center of the web as possible using two 8d nails at each web. 3.) (1) Apportionment of responsibilities between Structural Engineer of Record (Building Designer) and Delegated Engineer (Truss Designer) shall be as set forth in Chapter 2 of ANSI/TPI 1-1995. (2) In the case of a truss design package, a cover or index sheet may be signed and sealed in lieu of signing and sealing each individual sheet, provided that the cover or index sheet contains the following information: (a) The name, address and license number of the Engineer of Record for the truss design package. (b) Identification of the project, name of the authority having jurisdiction (City, County), the loads, and the name and date of the applicable building code that the truss design is intended to meet and all loads imposed on the structure. (c) Truss engineering design criteria with full identification of the source of the criteria. The source will be either the Engineer of Record (if there is an Engineer of Record for the structural engineering documents), or the engineer employed by the truss manufacturer. If there is an Engineer of Record for the structural engineering documents, that engineer shall be identified with his/her name; license number and address, along with a checkmark to ensure that the drawings have been reviewed as required by Rule 61G15-30.006(3). (d) A truss layout plan by the Engineer of Record showing the location and designation. of each component. (e) Identification of the computer program used for engineering the trusses. (f) An index of the attached drawings. The naming and numbering system utilized for the drawings shall be clear as to how many drawings there are in the set and the date of each of these drawings.
