Structural and Waterproofing Repairs Kimley -Horn conducted a site visit on November 19, 2020 to observe structural and waterproofing repairs on the Best Western Hotel – Balcony Restoration project. Upon arriving on site, progress work was observed on the NE and NW building blocks. The following observations were noted: a. Shoring shall be installed in all areas where repair work is taking place following the approved shoring shop drawings. Some balcony areas on the NE and NW blocks had not been shored at the time of the visit. Kimley -Horn requested the contractor to stop the repair work immediately until all the areas have been properly shored . Contractor installed additional shoring and p rovided Kimley -Horn with photos of those locations. We found it acceptable to resume work. (Reference Photos 1-2) b. Progress was observed on the spall areas where delaminated concrete had been removed and concrete edges sawcut at 90 degrees. Edges that are damaged shall receive a second sawcut beyond the damaged area and the section of concrete between the original sawc ut and the second sawcut shall be removed. c. Concrete around the reinforcement shall be removed to provide a minimum clearance of ¾” around the entire perimeter of each bar. Reinforcement shall be cleaned and reviewed by Kimley -Horn before applying bonding agents and patching material. Contractor shall notify Kimley -Horn where significant amount of material has been lost due to corrosion. d. All corroded or damaged electrical conduits shall be repaired/replaced before applying the patching material.
