1. Structural and Waterproofing Repairs
Kimley -Horn conducted a site visit on November 19, 2020 to observe structural and waterproofing
repairs on the Best Western Hotel – Balcony Restoration project. Upon arriving on site, progress work
was observed on the NE and NW building blocks. The following observations were noted:
a. Shoring shall be installed in all areas where repair work is taking place following the approved
shoring shop drawings. Some balcony areas on the NE and NW blocks had not been shored
at the time of the visit. Kimley -Horn requested the contractor to stop the repair work
immediately until all the areas have been properly shored . Contractor installed additional
shoring and p rovided Kimley -Horn with photos of those locations. We found it acceptable to
resume work. (Reference Photos 1-2)
b. Progress was observed on the spall areas where delaminated concrete had been removed
and concrete edges sawcut at 90 degrees. Edges that are damaged shall receive a second
sawcut beyond the damaged area and the section of concrete between the original sawc ut
and the second sawcut shall be removed.
c. Concrete around the reinforcement shall be removed to provide a minimum clearance of ¾”
around the entire perimeter of each bar. Reinforcement shall be cleaned and reviewed by
Kimley -Horn before applying bonding agents and patching material. Contractor shall notify
Kimley -Horn where significant amount of material has been lost due to corrosion.
d. All corroded or damaged electrical conduits shall be repaired/replaced before applying the
patching material.
