Handicap ramps are only approved for the use of the person with the disability. Thus, any installation will be of temporary construction so that when the ramp is no longer required or the home is sold, the ramp can be removed. Handicap accessible home entry ramps must be built to the latest Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction. I contacted the St. Lucie County Building Permit Department and was informed that a Handicap ramp is considered as a part of an entrance, same as steps, and requires a building permit. The building permit is required whether the ramp is attached or not attached to the structure. A ramp also must meet wind mitigation requirements. Handicap ramps require La Buona Vita Co-Op, Inc. Board of Directors' approval and a St. Lucie County building permit. The La Buona Vita Co-Op, Inc. Board of Directors will approve•the construction of the Handicap ramp to the addressee, at the residential address above, per drawing provided and attached. The approval is also contingent upon compliance of the all applicable Federal, State, County and other local laws and codes with issuance of the St. Lucie County building permit.
