RE: Jacobsen Homes HUD overbuild
Dear Mr. Young,
The structural design manual for Jacobsen Homes' HUD buildings considers a roof dead
load of 10 psf for the headers and 10 psf for the trusses. Any design of overbuild by
another professional engineer can be on the structure as long as the gravity and uplift
loads are distributed equally across the structure the same loading as if there were no
overbuild at all, the connections to our structure fasten into the top chord of the trusses
and distribute the load equally across the structure the same loading as if there were no
overbuild at all,the lateral forces from the overbuild are distributed equally and fastened
to direct the load into the roof diaphragm, the total weight of the roof and the overbuild is
equal to or less than 10 psf, and the height of the overbuild is not greater than the height
of the roof.

Mr. Voigt,
The email with the letter from Jacobson Homes for the host beam you sent to me this morning is the
correct letter, but it will need to be signed and sealed by Jacobson's Engineer and submitted in its
original form, also I have talked with Craig Young from Jacobson homes they will be emailing me a
copy of the engineers letter for the new roof over the Jacobson's roof system. Once I have this letter I
will forward it to you. But you will need to get the originals from Jacobson for submittal. There will be
requirements that will need to be addressed by your engineer as well.
The fourth wall system will not be required. But you will need to show the transference of loads to the
ground which will need to be done by the engineer of record, and be installed by a licensed mobile
home installer.
The new roof system will need to be installed as per Jacobson's engineer's letter, which will need to be
addressed by the engineer of record. Please show on the plans a cut detail of the valley board over the
existing roof system, showing the installation method.
Also we will need sub-contractor agreements from all trades that will be working on the addition... i.e.
mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, framing, etc.

1. 1 sent you the letters from Jacobson Holmes, were they sufficient for you?See message above.
2. 1 found the commencement letter from the County, can I e-mail that to you also?You can send
the letter so we can review and I will let you know if there are any issues.
3. Will you accept the two car parking if the engineer a-mails you a smaller page showing the
parking?The engineer can send me a copy for review (durdenWO-stlucieco.orr ) if the
document is ok it will need to be submitted signed and seal and in duplicate.
4. 1 am getting the drawing for the truss today(I Hope). Please make sure to send the truss
drawings and the engineering to the design professional in charge for review and approval.
5. Usually the inspector gets the information on the flood vents (manufactures specifications etc. Is
that permissible or do you want me to try &find out what they will use as I really don't like the
ones they put on my house, so I would like to change them all to one that will comply & look
aesthetically pleasing. We require that the flood vents be submitted before the permit is issued,
and if the flood vents are shown on the plans any changes will need to reflect on the plans or by
revision after the permit is issued.
