Fick — 9309 S Indian River Dr. — Temporary patch permit r f2 ounty, Permitting
We purchased the home in December, 2019 in a foreclosure sale. At the time of the purchase,
there existed damage to the south wall. The damage was to the exterior wall only and not the
sheetrock on the inside. We do not live in the home permanently yet and are currently
traveling back and forth from Texas as much as possible. We have recently completed the
demolition of the dilapidated pool (see permit #C2002-0258) and the pool equipment (which
partially blocked work on the wall), and had all abandoned vehicles and boats removed from
the property to clear the county lien.
Now that the wall can be reached, we are securing it against further damage during this
hurricane season with a temporary patch. Because we did not know we needed a permit, we
are now requesting one. We are currently having house plans drawn for a remodel, which will
include the permanent fix to the wall and thought that the permitting for the wall would start
with the remodel request. We apologize. All work is being done with deck screws for easy
removal once the remodel begins.
A lot of sand had piled up against the south wall, particularly behind the pool equipment. We
believe that is how moisture was able to get into the wall and cause the damage. When the
pool equipment was removed, we also had all of the excess sand scraped away from the house.
The buckled stucco has been cleanly cut away to provide a flat surface for application of
temporary plywood patch. To secure against water working its way around the plywood, the
perimeter has weather stripping sandwiched between the stucco and plywood. Trim pieces and
additional weather stripping/caulking will provide coverage in between the sheets of plywood
and the one corner included in the patch. The patch is roughly 8'x16'.
A second small area of roughly 5'x4', with wood siding and also on the south wall had some
damaged wood. It is being similarly patched.
Please see the attached pictures for a clearer image of what we are doing. The patching is not
finished but will be within the next week as we have to return to Texas.
