PRODUCT NAME DENS -GLASS GOLD® Gypsum Sheathing 2. MANUFACTURER Georgia-Pacific Corporation Gypsum Division 133 Peachtree Street, NE Atlanta, GA 30303 Phone: (800) 947-4497 3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Basic Uses: DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing is used for direct mechanical application to structural framing as a backing for exterior surfacing, as a wall covering material, or as a soffit material. DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing has been designed as a backerboard for adhesive application of exterior insulation finish systems. DENS -GLASS GOLD can also be used with exterior fmish systems without insulation (direct application) below the 4,000 heating degree days line. (See G-P DENS -GLASS GOLD brochure BuyLine 1752 dated 1/93 for a complete listing of direct application guidelines.) It is also recommended as an underlayment for vinyl, stucco, wood, metal, plywood, or board -type sidings, wood shingles or shakes, and stone or brick veneers. DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing, with its unique glass mat facing on the front and back, provides greater resistance to rain, heat, and wind than regular gypsum paper -faced sheathing can provide. This increased protection against weather reduces the need to replace panels due to warping, sagging, or delamination. Limitations: DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing should not be used as a base for nailing or mechanical fastening. DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing should be attached mechanically to structural framing. Panels should not be installed using staples or adhesives only. Maximum stud spacing for 1/2" DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing is 16" o.c. and 24" o.c. for 5/8" DENS -GLASS GOLD FIRESTOPO Type X. DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing may be stored outside prior to installation if stacked off the ground and under protective covering. Composition and Materials: DENS -GLASS GOLD gypsum sheathing is composed of a proprietary silicone -treated gypsum core, which is noncombustible and dimensionally stable. The core is an integral part of the inorganic glass mat surfacing on both sides. In addition, the gold side is coated with a proprietary alkali -resistant surface coating. Together, these materials provide stability and protection of the structural framing. Sizes and Shapes: -Thickness: 1/2" (13mm), 5/8" FIRESTOP Type X (16mm) 4-- • _4 - Widths: 48" (1.22m) standard, tolerance up to -1/8" - Lengths: 88", 98", and 108" (3.6m) standard, tolerance+/- 1/4" - Edges: Square Application Standards: Gypsum core conforms to ASTM C 1177.
