To Whom it may Concern:
We have had a discussion with BDI marine contractors regarding the seawall construction.
Our plans called for backfill compaction over the anchors to assure holding power. The contractor utilized manta ray driven anchors tested to 12,000 lbs. This is an accepted practice
on all our walls currently and their test capacities meet our satisfaction for support of this wall.
We approve the use of the manta rays in lieu of concrete plate anchors.
Since the anchors were driven and tested, there was no backfill, so there is no need for compaction testing. We approve waiving the compaction test requirement as there was not substantial
backfilling other than the 57 stone behind the wall for groundwater drainage.
The contractor also indicated they excavated a test pit to assess the soils for the presence of deleterious soils. They indicate they found no muck or deleterious soils that would
affect the wall. This is further supported in that the manta rays are exhibiting substantial holding power on load testing.
We inspected and approve the anchors.
On March 23, we inspected the reinforcing steel and the concrete cap form. The steel and cap pass inspection and are constructed as designed.
