Activities Observed:
1. Structural and Waterproofing Repairs
Kimley -Horn conducted a site visit to observe structural and waterproofing repairs on the Best Western
Hotel – Balcony Restoration project . Upon arriving on site, progress work was observed on the South
building. The following observations were noted:
a. Progress was observed on the spall areas where delaminated concrete had been removed .
Contractor addressed marked delaminated areas adjacent to the repairs and Kimley-Horn
found the work acceptable. Surface preparation was observed to be in accordance with the
restoration plans and technical specification on spall areas . Reinforcement was cleaned and
bonding agent was applied. Kimley-Horn found the steel preparation acceptable to receive
patching material.
b. Kimley -Horn found the splicing of damaged bars acceptable.
c. Structural decided to patch large spall areas with the Supermix pumpable concrete mix
design. Kimley-Horn observed that the description on the truck delivery ticked was in
compliance with the approved submittals. Based on the slump tests performed by Tierra South
Florida it was observed that the slump of the mix was 6.25, within the expected range (7 +/-
2in.). Concrete was frequently vibrated while poured on repair areas . (Reference Photos 1 &
