Artisan Lap Siding complies with ASTM C1186, Standard Specification for Grade II, Type A Non-asbestos Fiber-Cement Flat Sheets. 4. For all cases with 7.25" Artisan planks, the design pressures were interpolated based on the results of 5.25" and 8.25" Artisan planks of similar fastening configurations. The following is an example calculation for blind screw on steel framing at 16" o.c. For 5.25" Artisan plank: Effective tributary area = ((plank width exposed to weather × fastener spacing) /144) = ((5.25-1.25) × 16) /144 = 0.444 sq.ft. Design load = ultimate failure load /FOS = 236 psf / 3 = 78.7 psf Fastener load = design load × tributary area = -78.7 × 0.444 = 35.0 pounds For 8.25" Artisan plank: Effective tributary area = ((8.25-1.25) × 16) /144 = 0.778 sq.ft. Design load = 160 psf / 3 = 53.3 psf Fastener load = 53.3 × 0.778 = -41.5 pounds For 7.25" Artisan plank: Fastener load is interpolated based on plank width = 35 + (41.5 - 35) × (7.2 5- 5.25) / (8.25 - 5.25) = 39.3 pounds Effective tributary area = ((7.25-1.25) × 16) /144 = 0.667 sq.ft. Design load = fastener load / effective tributary area = 39.3 / 0.667 = 59.0 psf The analysis in Tables 1B and 1C follow the same process. Table 1A. Test Results and Analysis of Transverse Load Testing for Report No. 3097158COQ-009 0.5625 Fastener Load , as tested (lb/fastener) Design Load (psf) 3. Artisan lap siding as tested in report 3097158COQ-009 was 9/16 inch thick, however the current thickness of the product is 5/8". The wind load resistance will not be affected if the fastener embedment length or withdrawal capacity is maintained. For screws, since the screw length in the test is long enough to penetrate the stud for at least three full threads, therefore no need to increase the fastener length. For all configurations with nails, the length in Table 7 is extended 0.25" to 2.25" inch long to accommodate the increase of product thickness. 1.Intertek Report 101547645COQ-005A,(ASTM C1186) Material property test on Artisan siding. 2. The allowable/design capacity from the testing is based on a factor of safety of 3 applied to the ultimate test load per AC90. The wind load values are determined from the ASCE 7 equations. Since the allowable design load is based on factor of safety of 3, allowable design loads on fiber-cement siding correlate directly to required design pressures for Allowable Stress Design, and therefore should be used with combination loading equations for Allowable Stress Design (ASD). By using the combination loading equations for Allowable Stress Design (ASD), the tested allowable design loads for fiber-cement siding are aligned with the wind speed requirements in ASCE 7-10 (Figures 26.5-1A, 26.5-1B, and 26.5-1C) and ASCE 7-16 (Figures 26.5-1A to -1D, 25.5-2A to -2D), or the figures in the building code as applicable. 33.4 63.3 6d galv. siding nail, 0.092" x 0.225 HD x 2.25" 8d ring shank nail (0.113" x 0.260 HD x 2.375") & 16-ga. finish nail3 8d siding nail (0.092" x 0.225 HD x 2.5") & 16-ga. finish nail3 Analysis Analysis 43.5 19.7 120.2 Table 1D.
