II r 0 1101 NW 55`i'Street . r Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33309 w Subject: Report of Augercast Pile Installation Monitoring N C Kress Residence 5032 Watersong Way a St. Lucie County, Florida N _c -o Dear Mr. Barnes: 2: Nutting Engineers of Florida, Inc. (NE) has completed observation of augercast piling operations v for the proposed residence guesthouse at the subject site. Bodax Foundations, Inc. installed cast- in-place augured piles for support of the proposed residence. c Bodax Foundations, Inc. installed a total of 56, 14-inch diameter augercast piles for the project. c The piles were installed on March 12, and March 13, 2012. The pile size and depth 01 recommendations were based upon review of our Report of Geotechnical Exploration prepared by A.M. Engineering and Testing, Inc. dated October 3, 2011. Specific pile recommendations were not provided within the report; however the test boring: information was used in order to determine effective pile depth for the planned construction during augercast piling operations. The pile installation characteristics of each pile are presented in the attached Pile Installation o Data. Identification of each pile location followed by the, pile number is .shown on the Pile ULocation Plans attached. Each pile record in the attached summary tables shows the following information: N C O U RECORD NUMBER IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER C ■ THE PILE NUMBER (AS FOUND ON ATTACHED PLANS) THE DIAMETER OF THE PILE U THE LENGTH OF PILE FROM GROUND SURFACE TO TIP ■ THE THEORETICAL VOLUME OF GROUT FOR THE PILE IU ■ THE NUMBER OF PUMP STROKES FOR THE PILE 0 a OFFICES Palm Beach Miami-Dade St . Lucie 1 ■ THE ACTUAL VOLUME OF GROUT FOR THE PILE ■ THE GROUT FACTOR THE DATE OF INSTALLATION ■ THE REINFORCEMENT TYPES ■ AND GENERAL COMMENTS AS NEEDED The drilling operations were monitored in the field by our field engineer and inspector in order to approximately determine the type of material being penetrated. This identification was done based on the augering time, the materials received during the drilling operations and the relative hardness of the soilshocks as indicated.by the vibration or"chattering"of the hydraulic lines. The augercast piles were installed to depths of twenty-five to twenty-nine feet below the existing ground surface. The residence piles were designed for an allowable compressive capacity of 40 tons as required by the structural specifications and the recommendations made by our office. The piles were installed at a ground surface elevation of approximately +6 NAVD. Generally, during the, installation of the piles, easy drilling was observed from the ground level to approximately twenty-five feet. Below this depth range hard to very hard drilling was encountered representing the hard sandstone formation encountered in our test boring. The pile depth was determined based upon ensuring that the pile was embedded at least three to five feet into the hard sandstone formation that was observed at the specific pile location during drilling operations. Due to the discontinuous nature of the sandstone formation.the pile depths varied from location to location. During installation of the piles due to the loose nature of the underlying sand soils a greater volume of soil spoils were removed in order to cast a completed pile. Because of this condition the grout used was generally greater than typically needed to complete a pile. All piles received a steel cage consisting of four (4) #5 reinforcing steel bars with #3 ties spaced 6 inches from center to center in the upper fifteen feet of the pile and one central #7 reinforcing steel bar the full length of the pile as stated in the structural specifications. Upon completion of this inspection process, and review.of the recorded data, it is our opinion that the augercast piles for the guesthouse attained the required design compressive capacity of 40 tons. The piles that were presently installed were constructed in substantial compliance with the plans and specifications.
