LUCIE COUNTY PLAN COMMENTS Dear Building Official: We have reviewed table R301.2.2 for the wind uplift values listed. 'It appears that the values listed within this table are based on the methodology of ultimate strength and not allowable stress. Previous versions of the Florida Building Code utilized allowable stress values in the computation of window, door, and roof pressures. The 2010 FBC along with ASCE 7-10 switched to an ultimate design methodology but most if not all of the product approvals are based on allowable stress. To convert from ultimate stress to allowable stress you multiply the values shown in table 301.2.2 by 0.60. So when you do that the values we have shown on our S7 sheet are in ling with the listed values. We respectfully submit that our design is in compliance with the applicable standards of the Residential Florida Building Code, 2010 edition but the values shown on our plans are for allowable stress design and not ultimate stress design. The notes for table 301.2.2 do not give any indication as to whether the listed values are ultimate or allowable but on the next page table 301.2(4) has the design pressures shown for garage doors but the listed design speed is shown to be Vasd. Where asd is allowable stress design. No changes to our plans are required. We hope that you find this information helpful and should you have any questions please feel free to call on us.
