work to make sure that it accommodates the design.
3. Review with the Contractor the requirements as to the type of inspection and testing that is necessary
before the start of any phase of structural work. Confirm that the testing agency is using qualified,
personnel and completing all tests and inspections in a timely and professional manner.
4. After delivery to the job, observe structural members for compliance with the Official Contract
Documents, damage and flaws. Confirm that the structural members are being protected and stored
properly.
5. Verify that all tests, sampling or reports have been completed before finished work is covered and no
longer capable of being inspected or tested.
6. Confirm the repair and treatment of areas containing defective work.
B. FOUNDATIONS
1. Check to see that excavation, backfill and subsurface soil preparation is performed in accordance to the
Official Contract Documents. •
2. Verify that a qualified testing laboratory is performing density tests of soil beneath footings required
by the Official Contract Documents.
3. Prior to the placing of reinforcing in footings, confirm that the required density tests have been made.
4. Check the placement and size of anchor bolts and/or dowels.
Check size, spacing, number and clearance of reinforcing.
C. STRUCTURAL CONCRETE
General
1. • Verify that the location of all joints'such as expansion and contraction joints are as detailed on Official
Contract Documents or as otherwise approved.
2. Verify the location of all openings. Reinforcing should be as specified on Official Contract
Documents. Additional openings which are required should be approved by the designer.
3. Check that all structural embedded items are in place as shown on Official Contract Documents.
4. Before placement of concrete slab on grade, verify proper subsurface conditions, vapor barriers,
reinforcing and size and location and formwork for construction joints, including joint locations.
✓Forms
1. Before the placement of concrete, verify the location and dimension of forms.
2. Check that the rule of placement is within safe limits, such that the form will not be over stressed.
3. Ensure that concrete strength has adequately developed before removal of forms.
4. If oil is used as bond breaker, insure that oil is applied prior to reinforcing placement.

3. Check that reinforcing is clean of loose, flaky rust and scale, grease or other foreign materials.
✓Concrete
1. The Special Inspector should be given at least 24 hours notice prior to the placement of any concrete.
2. Verify that all concrete delivered is of an approved mix design and adequate records are being
maintained by testing lab.
3. Verify that the method of placement of concrete will not cause segregation, is rapid enough to avoid
formation of cold joints, and includes proper vibration.
4. All concrete test results shall be carefully reviewed.
5. Verify that all reinforcing and formwork has been observed and all necessary corrections made before
placement of concrete.
6. Record amount of water added at job site. Check compliance with specifications.
7. Check cured concrete for honeycombing, verify repair in accordance with specifications.
D. " SHORING
1. Check conformance of shoring and I eshoring plan for, location, spacing, size, quality, and adequacy,
to support horizontal and vertical milembers.
2. Examine schedule and placement sequence of form, shoring and reshoring placement, and removal.
