Mr.Jason Wilson 421 Hart Lane P.O.Box 160387 Nashville,TN 37216-0387 Dear Mr. Wilson, Legacy Engineering,Inc.was authorized by Mr.Jason Wilson,Director of Operations for Home Pride Inc., to conduct laboratory destructive testing on Fiberglass Steps model 351340 that are to be used on manufactured homes. On December 30, 2019, Legacy Engineering Inc. tested three (3) fiberglass steps from Mr. Jason Wilson of Horne Pride Inc. for the purpose of performing dead load tests on the platform and treads of the stairs. The tests were conducted on December 30 and 31, 2019, at our laboratory on 111 Spring Street in Jacksonville,Florida by Byron Crawford.Attached are the results of the various tests conducted with photos as well as additional information.The purpose of this testing was to satisfy the details in R301.7 and R301.5 note c of the FBC, Residential 2017 and of the 2018 IRC. There were to be three(3)dead load tests on the platform and three(3)dead load test on the step tread. The platform test was a dead load of 500 lb. distributed across the whole section of the top platform. This load was applied in 50 lb. increments until the target load of 500 lb. was reached. Once the load target was reached,the dead load was held of a period of 24 hours After the hold time,the dead load was removed in 501b increments. Deflection measurements were taken after each loading/unloading increment. The results are listed in the tables below. The step tread was load tested by use of a hydraulic jack pushing down on a 2" x 2" x 0.5" steel plate centered on the step tread. This load was applied in 50 lb. increments until the target load of 300 lb. was reached. Once the load target was reached, the load was held for 30 minutes. The load was released in 50 lb. increments. Deflection was measured for each loading/unloading increment next to the loading plate. The results are listed in the tables below. The samples tested were of model # HP351340, 5-step 38.75"h X 38" d X 48" w. This model represents the largest, single-braced, open-backed platform in the lineup.Per the manufacturer,larger steps in the lineup are double-braced and smaller steps have less surface area. Assuming materials, thicknesses, and construction quality used are of the same or greater specifications as the steps tested the HP351340 should produce the greatest deflection and thus results representative of the groups minimum load capacity. If this hold true, it can be assumed all other steps in the Home Pride lineup can be expected to achieve results equal to, or better than, the load vs. deflection capacities published in this report. These steps are included in the tables below.
