Powerwall + and Backup Switch
To Whom It May Concern:
Attached to this letter is a product information packet for (2) new Tesla products.
The purpose of this packet is to provide your department with technical
specifications, compliance information, and examples of electrical plans.

2. Backup Switch
The Powerwall + is an energy storage system that fully -integrates solar with up to
four strings of PV and has a single AC output. The energy storage system is capable
of solar self -consumption, time -based control, and backup applications.
The Backup Switch is a microgrid interconnect device that pairs with our Powerwall
systems to automatically detect grid outages to provide backup power. It is installed
between the utility meter and the meter base. The Backup Switch contains a line
side islanding relay, sensing equipment, and communications to our Powerwall
systems. Note that power production sources can't be connected to the Backup
Switch.

Powerwall + and Backup Switch: Datasheets
The datasheets for the Powerwall + and Solar Shutdown Device and the Backup
Switch can be found on the Partner Portal. They give an overview of product
functionality and compliance information alongside performance, environmental,
and mechanical specifications.
One notable feature of the Powerwall + is that the max continuous AC output
current is dependent on whether the system is on -grid or off -grid.
• Max continuous AC output current (on -grid) = 32A
• Max continuous AC output current (off -grid) = 40A
To account for the off -grid output current, the overcurrent protection device and
output conductors of the Powerwall.+ will be rated to 50A. While on -grid, an output
circuit current of 40A should be used to perform ampacity calculations when
reviewing NEC/CEC 705.12 compliance for the Powerwall +.
• On -grid output circuit current per 705.12: 32A * 1.25 = 40A
Powerwall + and Backup Switch: Authorization to Mark
The following pages include NRTL Authorization to Mark documents for the
Powerwall + and the Backup Switch.
Backup Switch meets UL 414 standards for meter sockets.
Powerwall + meets both UL 9540 and 1741 standards.

Based on this evaluation, I certify that the alteration to the existing structure by installation of the PV system meets the prescriptive
compliance requirements of the applicable existing building and/or new building provisions adopted/referenced above.
Additionally, I certify that the PV module assembly including all standoffs supporting it have been reviewed to be in accordance with the
manufacturer's specifications and to meet and/or exceed all requirements set forth by the referenced codes for loading.
The PV assembly hardware specifications are contained in the plans/does submitted for approval.
Installer shall verify existing roof framing is in suitable condition and does not exhibit any signs of structural damage which may diminish the
capacity of its members or connections prior to commencement of PV installation. Installer verification of the mounting plane noted above is
required because some or all of the framing was not observed prior to the structural evaluation performed for this report.

Tesla Standard Photovoltaic Systems - Electrical Qualification Certification Letter
Tesla is offering standard solar photovoltaic(PV) systems to simplify the ordering and install -
experience, lower costs, and make solar accessible to more Americans. All applicable electrical
code/requirements have been incorporated into the decision -making process for these
standardized offerings. The material selection and installation practice of these PV systems are
fixed. Product datasheets and UL listings provided are exclusively used for this standardized PV
product and provide information on PV module and PV inverter used..The repeatability of this
standardized product offering. ensures compliance with the NEC. Please refer to the design
documentation with all the code compliant wiring options that can be utilized.
Prior to commencement of installation, Tesla's Electrician/Contractor shall verify existing service
conductor and electrical panel to be in suitable condition for 'interconnection, not exhibiting
previous arc or physical damage on insulation of service conductors and panel busbar which
may affect ampacity and its ability to establish proper connection between the PV inverter and
utility grid. The interconnection is performed ensuring that any one of the methods discussed in
NEC section 705.12 is followed.
The system can be interconnected to the utility grid in two ways:
1. Supply side connection as covered by NEC Section 230.82(6) and NEC Section
705.12(A), The sum of the ratings of all PV over -current protection device connected
shall not exceed the rating of the service.
2. Load side connection as covered by NEC article 705.12(B)(2). The section specifies
that interconnection is permitted, provided one of the methods of interconnection to
busbar are followed. Approved load side interconnection methods are listed in the
following:

I certify that installation of Tesla standard photovoltaic (PV) systems with interconnection to an
electrical service meets the criteria outlined in NEC article 690, 705 and related articles in NEC
and is therefore permitted by code. The PV system design described in the design document,
when properly installed and maintained, meets the minimum recommended practices
established by the Florida Solar Energy Center(FSEC) certification and those requirements set
forth by the most recent'edition of Florida Building code(FBC). This approval does not imply
endorsement or warranty of the module and inverter.

The Backup Gateway 2 for Tesla Powerwall provides energy management
and monitoring for solar self -consumption, time -based control, and backup.
The Backup Gateway 2 controls connection to the grid, automatically
detecting outages and providing a seamless transition to backup power.
When equipped with a main circuit breaker, the Backup Gateway 2 can be
installed at the service entrance: When the optional internal panelboard is
installed, the Backup Gateway 2 can also function as a load center.
The Backup Gateway 2 communicates directly with Powerwall, allowing you
to monitor energy use and manage backup energy reserves from any mobile
