The Empress Condo Building CO L Dear Mr. Laprade: This letter is based on my site observation of the existing accordion hurricane shutters on the balcony required to protect the newly installed balcony sliding glass door and single hung windows. It is understood that the new non -impact sliding glass door and windows were installed per the respective manufacturer's direction and the NOA's to the existing concrete opening and is not the issue with this letter. Examining the existing shutter installation and completing wind load calculations, it was found that the shutter upper and lower tracks required a maximum spacing for the concrete fasteners of 8" on center with a diameter not less than V4" and minimum 1.5" embedment with an edge distance not less than 2.5". On observation, the existing shutters were found to meet these minimum requirements. The shutters were also opened and closed and found to operate smoothly. The calculations for the shutter mounting tracks were based on the following: Using the ASCE7-10; CONCEALED FA3TENEFS OR ATTACHP1ENTS Sliding glass door height is less than 30 feet; Exposure D; Wind speed 170 mph; Enclosed Structure, wind zone 4; ARE THE RESPONSISIL!
