Product Approval Accepts: ®®0 Credit Card Safe Installation Information DuPont_'" Tyviek ®R) Protec.T M Roofing Underlayments Installation Guidelines SYSTEM'OVERVIEW Installation Guidelines Acceptable For Use With DuPont' Tyvek' Protec" 120 DuPont'"° Tyvek• Protec'200 Specifications • Tyvek` Protec' is available in 10 square rolls: 48" x25071.2m x 76.2m (92.9m2), and 2 square rolls:48" x5071.2m x 15.2m (18.5 ml) • Tyvek' Protec" is for use on roofs with slopes z2:12. • Tyvek` Protec"' must be covered with the final roof cladding within: 3-months with Tyvek* Protec" 120 6-months with Tyvek* Protec" 160 or Tyvek* Protec" 200 Tyvek' Protee, should not be considered a final roofing system/primary water barrier. Tyvek' Protec"' is a secondary layer applied over sheathing, under a primary roofing system as specified for the following: - Tyvek` Protec' 120 - asphalt shingles, metal or cedar roof cladding - Tyvek" Protec' 160 - asphalt shingles, tile, metal, cedar, or state roof cladding - Tyvek' Protec" 200 - asphalt shingles, tile, metal, cedar, or slate roof cladding Building Code Compliance • Consult local building code and roof cladding manufacturer for use of underlayment. • Consult local, building code and roof cladding manufacturer for underlayment edge and end overlap and fastening requirements that may differ from Tyvek' Protec" instructions. Follow the more restrictive requirements. • Where required by local building code, apply selfadhering waterproof underlayment as required by code according to manufacturer's instructions and Tyvek' Protec" for successive courses. • Tyvek` Protec" provides protection against leaks under all types of roof coverings identified by ICC-ES AC188. •oURONt Tyvek, • Tyvek' Protec' meets or exceeds the following code criteria and test protocols: - AC188 (Intertek CCRR-1062) - ASTM D226 types I & II - ASTM E108 - CAN/CSA A123.3 - CAN/CSA A220.1 Precautions and Safety • Apply Tyvek° Protec" taut and wrinkle -free. Do not stretch. • Do not apply Tyvek* Protec"' over wet or frost -covered roof sheathing. • Caution should be taken when walking on Tyvek' Protec" until it has been fastened according to instructions. • Caution should be taken when walking on Tyvek* Protec' when it is wet or frost -covered. • Use fall protection when working on roof. Refer to OSHA safety regulations 29 CFRI926 subpart M. • Consult your local DuPont" Tyvek' Specialist for additional information. Preparation • Apply Tyvek* Protec" over a dry, smooth, clean and defect -free roof deck. Tyvek' Protec" cannot be installed over existing roof cladding. • Tyvek` Protec" is a vapor barrier. Ensure that the space beneath the roof sheathing is properly ventilated before installing to avoid condensation problems. INSTALLATION 1. Lay courses of DuPontTm Tyvek" Protec" horizontally in "shingle 5. Apply Tyvek° Protec" with two layers on roofs with style" fashion following the'lap lines provided in 4" slopes between 2:12 and up to 4:12. Begin with a 26" course overlaps and 6" end laps beginning along the eave undercourse strip parallel to the eave edge, and then edge. Offset end laps in successive courses by 6 feet. cover with a full width sheet. Overlap successive sheets 2. When attaching DuPont-Tyvek' Protec"r to the roof sheathing: When used under tile, slate, cedar and metal roof claddings, 1" diameter (min) metal or plastic (ring shank or smooth shank) cap -nails or cap -staples are required. - When used under asphalt or synthetic shingles, 1" diameter (min) metal or plastic cap -nails or capstaples are recommended. Un-capped staples or standard roofing nails may be used if shingles are installed within 36 hours (unless rain or high winds are expected). Use of uncapped fasteners may result in a risk of blow off or leakage around the fastener penetrations during a wind or rain event. - All anchoring must be performed flush to the roof and 90 degrees to the roof deck. 3. Install fasteners 12" on center (o.c) along course and end over -laps and a single row 24" on center along the middle line of the field. Use the printed pattern as a guide. 4. In high wind zones (at or above 100 mph per IRC R301.2), fasteners must be installed at all printed locations on the Tyvek' Protec". It must be fastened using corrosion -resistant metal or plastic cap nails with a head diameter of at least 1" and a thickness of at least 32-gauge sheet metal. The cap -nail shank shall be a minimum of 12 gauge (0.105 inches) with a length to penetrate through the roof sheathing of a minimum of % inch into the roof sheathing. by 26". 6. Install Tyvek® Protec' over drip edges along eave edge and under drip edges along rake edges. Lap Tyvek' Protec" 8" (min) onto walls. 7. Line roof valleys with a sheet of Tyvek* Protec" prior to installing horizontal courses of Tyvek' Protec". Lap the ends of horizontal Tyvek* Protec" courses over the valley sheet by 6". B. At ridges and hips where ridge vents will not be applied, cross -lap Tyvek' Protec" from one roof plane onto the other by 6". For additional weather protection, apply a 24 wide sheet of Tyvek' Protec' across hips and ridges. Dupont'" Tyvek® ProtecTM' 120, 160, and 200 underlayments are used in the field of the roof as an alternative to the ASTM D226, Type I and Type II, roof underlayments specified in Chapter 15 of the IBC and Chapter 9 of the IRC. The underlayments may be used in areas of the roof required by IBC Section 1507 or IRC Section R905 to have an ice barrier roof underlayment, when installed as noted in. Section 4.2. The underlayments may be used as components of classified assemblies when installed as described in this report. The underlayments have been evaluated for the properties as listed in Table 1. 3.0 DESCRIPTION Dupont'" Tyvek® Prate& 120 is a mechanically .attached synthetic underlayment comprised of an embossed non- woven top scrim and a woven bottom scrim with a polymeric laminated facer. The underlayment has an overall weight of 2.25 pounds per 100 square feet, and it is available in rolls 48 inches wide by 250 feet long. The underlayment has an overall weight of 3.58 pounds per 100 square feet, and it is available in rolls 48 inches wide by 250 feet long. 4.0 INSTALLATION 4.1 General: Installation of the underlayments must comply with the applicable Code, this report, and the report holder's published installation instructions. The underlayments must be installed in accordance with the subsections of IBC Section 1507 and IRC Section R905 applicable to the roof covering being installed. The underlayments must be laid with the print side up, with laps as required by the applicable Code, evaluation report, or manufacturer's Instructions, whichever is more restrictive. The roof covering maybe installed immediately following the underlayment application and the underlayment must be covered within the time designated in the report holder's published installation Instructions. 4.2 Ice Barrier: In areas of the roof required by IBC Section 1507 or IRC Section R905 to have an ice barrier, two layers of Dupont'" Tyvek® ProtecTM' 120, 160, or 200 underlayment, solidly cemented together with'a low solvent based roofing cement complying with ASTM D4586 Type 1 (asbestos free), may be used provided the ice barrier extends up the roof a minimum distance of 24 inches inside the interior wall line of the building. The underlayments may also be used as an alternative to the underlayments specified in the Code for roof coverings permitted under the Exceptions to IBC Section 1505.2 and IRC Section R902.1 and may be used where non -classified roofing is permittedin IBC Section 1505.5. 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The underlayments described in this Research Report comply with, or are suitable alternatives to, what is specified in those Codes listed in Sections 1.0 and 2.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 Installation must comply with this Research Report, the manufacturer's published installation Instructions, and the applicable Code. In the event of a conflict between the manufacturer's instructions and this report, this report governs. 5.2 Installation is limited to use with approved mechanically attached roof covering systems. 5.3 Installation is limited to roof systems that do not involve hot asphalt or coal -tar pitch. 5.4 Installation is limited to roofs with a slope of 2:12 (17%) or greater. 5.5 Attic ventilation must be provided in accordance with the applicable Code since there are no requirements to evaluate vapor permeability of the underlayment. 5.6 The underlayments are manufactured under a quality control program with inspections by Intertek Testing Services NA Inc. 6.0 SUPPORTING EVIDENCE 6.1 Reports of tests in accordance with ASTM E108. 6.2 Data in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Roof Underlayments (AC188), dated February 2012 (editorially revised December 2015). 6.3 Intertek Listing Report titled "DuPont Synthetic Roofns Underlayments".
