As observed and discussed with the construction supervisor the exterior 4'x8' 1/2" plywood sheathing, which was applied horizontally, was nailed with 10d x 2-3/8" ring shank nails at 4" o.c. on perimeter and 6" o.c. in the field. This nailing pattern and nails would provide securely continuously attachment of the plywood to the existing T&G (7/8" thick) plank sheathing. This attachment alone is acceptable for attaching the new sheathing to meet the cladding attachment requirements. And nailing into studs on corners, at window and door framing, jack studs, etc provide 1" nail embedment into the studs for additional attachment. In conclusion, I find the nailing pattern of the exterior sheathing to be acceptable to meet cladding requirements at this location.
