SCHEDULE-NOTES & TYPICAL DETAILS
STRUCTURAL NOTES GENERAL 1. Construction shall comply with Standard Building Code, 1994. 2. No shop drawings shall be submitted for Architect/Engineer review until after they have been reviewed and noted for construction method, dimensioning and other trade requirements by the contractor and stamped with the contractors approval seal. Engineer assumes no responsibility for dimensions, quantities, errors or omissions as a result of checking and reviewing any shop drawings. 3. The contractor shall be responsible to provide any miscellaneous framing and supports not shown on the structural plans but shown on the architectural plans. COMPACTION 1. Soil shall be compacted or modified as per geotechnical engineers recommendations. This compaction shall be effective 24 inches under the stripped subgrade or footing bottom, whichever is lower. Density Tests are to be made 24 Inches below the compacted surface. Results of Proctor Test(s) and Field Density Test(s) shall be furnished to the Engineer. SOIL BEARING PRESSURES 1. The safe soil bearing pressure is 2500 psf. for building foundations and slab on grades as per geo engineers recommendations. CONCRETE 1. Unless otherwise called for in specifications or drawings, all concrete work shall conform I fo m to all requirements and recommendations of ACI 301-89" "Specification for Structural Concrete Buildings." strength as stated below, at 28 days, with a plastic and workable mix. 2. A certificate of manufacturer's mix and strength is to be provided. No water to be added after truck leaves plant without approval of Engineer of Plant engineer. Plant control Is required. Maximum mix time at point of deposit is 90 minutes. 3. Concrete shall obtain the following strengths at 28 days: fc = 4000 psi (beams, structural slabs, columns, and walls) fc = 3000 psi (foundations, slabs on grade) 4. Bars to be ASTM A615-86, GRADE 60 (U.O.N.), free from oil, loose scale and loose rust and bent, lapped, placed, supported and fastened according to the 'ACI Detailing Manual" (SP-, 66,88) and the 'Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete" (ACI 318-89). 5. Shop drawings shall be submitted for review. 6. Welded wire mesh shall conform to ASTM A185-85. 7. Calcium chloride shall not be used in any form. B. Minimum concrete protection for reinforcing bars: Foundations 3 Beams 1 1/2" to stirrups Columns 1 1/2" to ties Slabs to exposed to weather 3/4" Slabs exposed to weather 1 1/2" 9. Slabs on fill shall be 4" thick U.N.O., reinforced with 6"x, 6" 1.4 X 1.4 W.W.F.. Fill under slabs shall be sand and/or rock. 10. Walls and columns penetrating slabs on fill shall be isolated by premolded, 1/2" thick, joint filler, U.N.O. concrete shall be poured in a checkerboard pattern with construction joints at 25' -0" O.C. maximum. 11. Unless otherwise permitted or specified, the concrete shall be proportioned and produced to have a slump of 3" minimum, and 5" maximum. Concrete during and immediately after depositing shall be thoroughly vibrated. 12. Where openings through concrete slabs are required, openings shall be mode by blocking out prior to placing of the concrete. Location of all openings shall be coordinated with plumbing, electrical and mechanical plans. STRUCTURAL STEEL 1. Shall conform to the following ASTM designations U.O.N. Shapes, Plates and Anchor Bolts (A36-84A) Pipes (A501-84) Tubes (A500-84, Grade B) Machine Bolts (A325-86A) Welds (AWS A5.1, E-70XX Electrode) 2. Steel to receive shop coats and field touch-up of point in accordance with "SSPC Specifications. All welding, shop fabrication and shop painting shall conform to the "AISC Specifications." (9th Edition), for the design, fabrication and erection of structural steel for buildings. 3. Shop drawings shall be submitted for review. 4. All welding electrodes shall be E70XX. S. All welding shall be done by state certified welders and shall conform to the AWS "Code for Arc and Gas Welding to Building Construction", latest edition. TIMBER: 1. Joists: Hem.Fir/Sou.Pine No. 2 2. Beams/Posts: Doug. Fir/Sou. Pine No. 1 1 Studs/Plates: Hem.Fir/Sou.Pine Std. Grade 4. Roof Trusses: Designed by Manufacturer with metal connection plates Per Truss Plate Institute. Loading: TC live load - 20 psf TC dead load - 10 psf BC dead load - 8 psf 5. Plywood: APA exp. 1 Roof - 15/32 - 32/16 panel rating Floor - 3/4 - 48/24 panel rating' STEEL JOISTS 1. Shall be sized and spaced as shown on these drawings, U.O.N. 2. Joists shall be fabricated, connected and bridged in accordance with the "Steel Joist Institute Specifications." 3. Bridging that must be cut and removed for mechanical openings and equipment shall be replaced and relocated as close as possible to the original positions. Shop drawings shall be submitted for review. METAL DECK 1. See plans for deck sizes and locations. 2. Minimum bearing shall be 1 1/2 inches U.O.N. 3. All deck units shall be anchored .to supporting members, including bearing walls, with 5/8 Inch diameter puddle welds or equivalent at the following locations: Near the corner of each sheet or at overlapping corners of sheet. At end of sheets, spacing shall not exceed 8' inches on centers. At intermediate supports, spacing shall not exceed 12 inches on centers. 4.' Welding washers shall be used. Washers shall be a minimum thickness of 0.0568 inches (16 gauge), 1 in. x 1 In. arched rectangle with a nominal 3/8 inch diameter hole in the center. The final size weld should be larger than the original hole. 5. All deck units with overlapping edges (Parallel to the direction of span) shall be anchored with a #10 self -tapping screw at a maximum spacing of 12 inches on centers. 6. Roof decks shall be erected and attached in accordance with "Roof Deck Specifications" by the Steel Deck Institute. In no way shall attachments be less than that required by the local governing code. 7. All deck edges that are parallel to a joist and abut to a masonry or concrete wall shall be supported on a continuous angle. MASONRY 1. MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WTH BUILDING CODE REOUIREMENTS FOR MASONRY STRUCTURES" (A. C.I. 530- 927/ASCE 5-92/TMS 402-92) 2. THE MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF MASONRY ASSEMBLIES AT 28 DAYS SHALL BE 2000 P.SL ON THE NET SECTION (MORTAR BED AREA - F'M - 1J50 PSI). A ALL OPENINGS IN CMU WALLS SHALL BE REINFORCED WITH AT LEAST 1 OU BAR ON EACH SIDE, TOP AND BOTTOM.
