6106 Silver Oak Drive, Fort Pierce (St. Lucie County), FL 34982
M&A Project No. 18350E
Dear Mr. Little:
Per your request, Moore and Associates Engineering and Consulting, Inc. (M&A) has developed
this letter to address review comments made by the Planning & Development Services- Building
& Code Regulation Division of St. Lucie County. A copy of the review comments provided to
M&A via email is included in Attachment A. A copy of the building sales order form is included
in Attachment B.
The applicable master design was noted to be the Enclosed Building- Exposure B- Maximum 40'-
0" Wide x 20'-0" Eave Height- Box Eave Frame, Revision 4 dated 18 December 2017. A copy
of the applicable master design with Florida digital seal/signature is included in Attachment C.
The applicable master design was analyzed/designed per the 2017 Florida Building Code (FBC)
6"' Edition as well other codes/criteria. The 2017 FBC, 61' Edition is the model building code for
the State of Florida and references the 2015 International Building Code (IBC). The 2015 IBC, in
turn, references ASCE/SEI 7-10 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures.
To verify that the subject building fell within the analysis/design parameters of the applicable
master design, M&A obtained site -specific natural phenomena load information from the Applied
Technology Council (ATC) website. This informat s '1lu din -Attachment D.
COPY
National Society of
Professional Engineers®
As can be seen, the site -specific load information is less than that used in the analysis/design of
the applicable master design so long as the roof trusses and columns (legs) are spaced at or less
than 4'-0" on center. The geometry of the subject building (i.e. width, eave heights and lean-to
width) fall within the parameters of the applicable master design as well.
It is our understanding that the subject building is or will be founded on a slab on grade with
monolithic turned -down footings. It is assumed that the slab is/will be minimum 4" thick and be
reinforced with welded wire fabric (WWF) and/or fiberglass fibers meeting the requirements of
the American Concrete Institute (ACI) 318-14 Building Code Requirements for Structural
Concrete and Commentary and/or local code requirements. Per Sheet 7A of the applicable master
design, the turned -down footing should be reinforced with minimum two (2) continuous
longitudinal #4 rebar. The rebar should be fabricated and installed in accordance with Sheet 7a as
well as ACI 318-14.
The foundation system for the applicable master design was based on the following
analysis/design parameters:
1. Allowable soil bearing pressure of 1,500 psf
2. Minimum 28-day compressive strength of concrete = 3,000 psi
3. WWF meets the requirements of ASTM A185 (65 ksi yield strength)
4. Rebar meets the requirements of ASTM A615 (60 ksi yield strength)
5. Cover dimensions meet the requirements of ACI-318-14
If the building is placed on in -situ virgin subgrade, the subgrade should be tested to verify that it
is compacted to minimum 95% of maximum density per ASTM D698- Standard Test Methods
for Laboratory Compaction Characteristics of Soil Using Standard Effort (12 400 ft-lbf/ft3 (600
kN-m/m3)). As noted above, the in -situ soils must provide a minimum soil bearing capacity of
1,500 psf. If fill material is used, the fill should be a 50150 clay sand mix. The fill should be
placed and compacted to minimum 95% of maximum density per ASTM D698. The fill should
be placed and compacted in greater than 8" lifts.
Although the slab/foundation system and building superstructure are constructed of materials that
are not affected by subterranean termites, M&A is unfamiliar with what may be stored within the
building and whether those materials would be affected by termites. Thus, if any non -load
bearing timber materials are placed within the building and/or if any timber and/or paper products
are stored within the subject building, M&A recommends that the grade/subgrade under the
building/foundation system be treated for termites. The termite treatment should comply with the
requirements of Section 105.10 and 105.11 of the 2017 FBC, 6t' Edition. It is assumed that
others will address comments relating to zoning.
2

additional information.
Sincerely,

Disclaimer ,
Hazard loads ate interpolated from data provided in ASCE 7 and rounded up to the nearest whole integer. Per ASCE 7, islands and coastal areas outside the last
contour should use the last wind speed contour of the coastal area — in some cases, this website will extrapolate past the last wind speed contour and therefore,
provide a wind speed that is slightly higher. NOTE: For queries near wind-borne debris region boundaries, the resulting determination is sensitive to rounding
which may affect whether or not it is considered to be within a wind-borne debris region.
