RE: Finished floor waiver
Dear Mr. Worley
Please accept this letter in response to your written request received November 7, 2018 to waive
the finished floor elevation of 18" above the crown of the road. The waiver request is for a
proposed metal building for a single family residence at 5207 Seagrape Dr., Fort Pierce.
Pursuant to Section 7.04.01(C-3) of the St. Lucie County Land Development Code, the Planning
and Development Services Director has the authority to grant administrative relief, when
topographical conditions are such that compliance with this subsection would be impracticable
or cause grade level conditions detrimental to adjacent or nearby property, consistent with the
intent of the Flood Protection regulations and any other applicable portion of this Code.
The Planning and Development Services Director has granted your request for administrative
relief of the finished floor elevation based on the following determinations:
1 The proposed metal building is in Flood zone X.
2 The elevation of the center line of adjacent road is 17.6' NAVD.
3 The proposed finished floor elevation will be 18.8' NAVD which is 1.20' above the center
line of the road.
4 The metal building will be used as a garage/workshop area.
This approval does not in any way constitute authorization to begin construction. Prior to the
commencement of any construction on this property, an application for specific building permit
must be obtained from this department.
Please feel free to contact me at (772) 462-2822 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
41

Hello Leslie.
My name is Mark Worley, and I am writing to you to request a variance on
the foundation height of the floor on the metal building in question. The.
z proposed height of the floor is the same as the garage floor of the home I now
live in, which is located next to the site for the metal building. I was hoping to
keep them the same. There will be no plumbing and it will only be used as a
garage/workshop area. I have talked to longtime residents of my neighborhood
1
over the years and have been told that even before the drainage improvements in
our area, that flood water has never crossed the road in this section. I have lived
in this home since 1991 and experienced some heavy flooding in surrounding
areas but can also confirm, from what I've witnessed, those statements are true.
If' I was concerned about flooding, I would not be making this request, as I am not
interested experiencing any water intrusion into the building for any reason.
I am hoping you will please consider this request. The height difference
may not seem like much, but it's a big difference to me, and with the new building
being a little taller, I believe it will help make it I little more aesthetically pleasing
with the surrounding property.
Thank you again for your consideration. `
Ri spectfully,
Mark Worley
