SECTION 1524 - HIGH VELOCITY HURRICANE ZONES _
EQUIRED OWNERS NOTIFICATION FOR ROOFING CONSIDERATIONS
1524.1 Scope. As it pertains to this section, it is the responsibility of the roofing contractor to provide the owner with
the required roofing permit, and to explain to the owner the content of this section. The provisions of Chapter 15 of
the Florida Building Code, Building govern the minimum requirements and standards of the industry for roofing
sys installations. Additionally, the following items should be addressed as part of the agreement between the
ow er the contractor. The owner's initial in the designated space indicates that the item has been explained.
Aesthetics -Workmanship: The workmanship provisions of Chapter 15 (High Velocity Hurr cane Zone)
ar o h purpose of providing that the roofing system meets the wind resistance and water intrusion performance

2. Renafling Wood Decks: When replacing roofing, the existing wood roof deck may have to be renailed
rdance with the current provisions of Chapter 16 (High Velocity Hurricane Zones) of the Florida Building
Building. (The roof deck'is usually concealed prior to removing the existing roof system).
3. Common Roofs: Common roofs are those which have no visible delineation between neighboring units
wnhouses, condominiums, etc.). In buildings with common roofs, the roofing contractor and/or owner should

. Ventilation- Most roof structures should have some ability to vent natural airflow through the interior of
thurat assembly (the building itsell). The existing amount of attic ventilation shall not be reduced.
Exception: Attic spaces, designed by a Florida licensed engineer or registered architect to eliminate the attic
venting, venting shall not be required.

4. USES
OWENS CORNING asphalt shingles described In this report are alternatives to asphalt shingles
complying with Section 1607.2.6 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 IBC and Section RSD52 4 of the
2015, 2012, 2009, and 2006 IRC, and are Class A roof coverings for new and existing roofs.
S. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
OWENS CORNING asphalt shingles are roof covering materials complying with the following properties
when installed as described In this report. The products are three -tab shingles, laminated shingles and
hip & ridge shingles. The products are available in standard and metric sizes.
Fire Classification: OWENS CORNING asphalt shingles covered under this Report have been tested for
fire classification Class A in accordance with UL790 (ASTM E108). Shingles tested in accordance with
UL790 (ASTM E108) qualify for use under Section 1505.1 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 IBC and
Section R902.1 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 IRC.
Wind Resistance: OWENS CORNING asphalt shingles covered under this Report have been tested for
wind resistance in accordance with ASTM 03161 or ASTM D7158.
Shingles tested in accordance with ASTM D3161 are classified as Class F or Class A and qualify for use
under the exception to Section 1507.2.8.1 of the 2015 IBC, Section 1507.2.7.1 of the 2012, 2009 and .
2006 IBC, or the exception to Section R905.2.4.1 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 IRC.
Shingles tested in accordance with ASTM D7158 are classified as Class H and qualify for use in locations
as shown In Table 1504.1.1 of the 2015 IBC, Table 1607.2.7.1 of the 2012 and 2009 IBC or Table
R905.2.4.1 of the 2016, 2012 and 2009 IRC, where the maximum basic wind speed is 150 mph (67 m/s)
or less with exposure category of 8 or C (ASCE 7) and a maximum building height of 60 feet (18.3 m).
Installation must be in accordance with Section 1507.2.7 of the 2015, 2012. 2009 and 2008 IBC or
Section R905.2.6 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 IRC, as applicable.
Physical Properties: OWENS CORNING asphalt shingles covered under this Report have been tested
for physical properties in accordance with AC 438. Shingles tested in accordance with AC438 qualify as
an alternative roof covering for use under Section 1607.2.5 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2005 IBC or
Section R905.2.4 of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 IRC, When Installed In new construction in
accordance with this report and the OWENS CORNING Installation instructions, the shingles are a Class
A fire classification roof covering. When the shingles are installed over existing roof coverings, the fire
classification is maintained.

SCOPE:
This NOA is being issued under the applicable rules and regulations governing the use of construction materials. The
documentation submitted has been reviewed and accepted by Miami -Dade County RER -Product Control Section to be
used in Miami -Dade County and other areas where allowed by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
This NOA shall not be valid after the expiration date stated below. The Miami -Dade County Product Control Section
(in Miami -Dade County) and/or the AHJ (in areas other than Miami -Dade County) reserve the right to have this
product or material tested for quality assurance purposes. If this product or material fails to perform in the accepted
manner, the manufacturer will incur the expense of such testing and the AHJ may immediately revoke, modify, or
suspend the use of such product or material within their jurisdiction. RER reserves the right to revoke this acceptance,
if it is determined by Miami -Dade County Product Control Section that this product or material fails to meet the
requirements of the applicable building code.
This product is approved as described herein, and has been designed to comply with the Florida Building Code
including the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code.

LABELING: Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and following
statement: "Miami -Dade County Product Control Approved", unless otherwise noted herein.
RENEWAL of this NOA shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and there has been no change
in the applicable building code negatively affecting the performance of this product.
TERMINATION of this NOA will occur after the expiration date or if there has been a revision or change in the
materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process. Misuse of this NOA as an endorsement of any product,
for sales, advertising or any other purposes shall automatically terminate this NOA. Failure to comply with any section
of this NOA shall be cause for termination and removal of NOA.
ADVERTISEMENT: The NOA number preceded by the words Miami -Dade County, Florida, and followed by the
expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the NOA is displayed, then it shall be done
in its entirety.
INSPECTION: A copy of this entire NOA shall be provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and
shall be available for inspection at the job site at the request of the Building Official.
This NOA renews NOA No. 12-0430.01 and consists of pages I through 4.

LIMITATIONS
1. Fire classification is not part of this acceptance; refer to a current Approved Roofing Materials Directory for
fire ratings of this product.
2. Shall not be installed on roof mean heights in excess of 33 ft.
3. All products listed herein shall have a quality assurance audit in accordance with the Florida Building Code
and Rule 61G20-3 of the Florida Administrative Code.
INSTALLATION
1. Shingles shall be installed in compliance with Roofing Application Standard RAS 115.
2. Flashing shall be in accordance with Roofing Application Standard RAS 115
