5.6 Allowable Substrates:
5.6.1 Wind Resistance for Underlayment Systems in Foam -On Tile Applications: FRSA/TRI April 2012 (04-12) does not
address wind uplift resistance of all underlayment systems beneath foam -on tile systems, where the underlayment
forms part of the load -path. The following wind uplift limitations apply to underlayment systems that are not
addressed in FRSA/TRI April 2012 (04-12) and are used in foam -on tile applications. Maximum Design Pressure is the
result of testing for wind load resistance based on allowable wind loads, and reflects the ultimate passing pressure
divided by 2 (the 2 to 1 margin of safety per FBC 1504.9 has already been applied). Refer to FRSA/TRI April 2012 (04-
12), Appendix A, Table 1A or FBC 1609 for determination of design wind loads.
#1 Maximum Design Pressure= -52.5 psf:
Deck: Min. 15/32-inch plywood to meet project requirements to satisfaction of Authority Having
Jurisdiction.
Primer: None
Underlayment: Weather-Armore F1`3 Tile Underlayment, self -adhered.
5.7 Exposure Limitations:
Gator-Skin- Synthetic Roof Underlayment, Gator-Skin 10" Synthetic Roof Underlayment or Weather -Armor®

6.4.2 Non -Tile Applications 0 slopes 4:12 (18.41 or greater:
➢ Run horizontally starting at the bottom edge of the roof with printed side up.
➢ Code Reference: The Exception statement in FBC 1507.1.1 and FBC R905.1.1 requires use of metal cap nails
where the ultimate design wind speed, Vun, equals or exceeds 150 mph.
➢ Do not use staples; always use corrosive resistant nails and nail at 90 degrees to the roof deck. Do not leave any
gaps. Nails should be snug and hammered flush to the deck.
➢ For same day coverage with primary roofing materials, fasten underlayment a minimum of every other location
using min. 1-inch plastic cap nails or min. 1-inch leg roofing nails with min. 3/8-inch head.
➢ If left exposed after the initial day of installation, fasteners must be installed in every location and min. 1-inch
metal cap (smooth or ring shank) or min. 1-inch plastic cap roofing nails must be used in all locations, as printed

➢ Where seams or joints require sealant, use APOC, Black lack or Gardner approved sealants or tapes. Contact
Gardner Asphalt Corp. for recommendations as to when and what to use.
➢ Carefully set roll in place at the edge of the roof and unroll 2 to 3 ft.
➢ Align the underlayment to the edge of the rake and eaves, but not over the sides of the building.
➢ Extend over metal at eaves and under metal at rakes.
➢ When the properly positioned and straight, install two (2) nails at least 6-inch apart along top edge to hold the
underlayment in place.
➢ Next, roll out approximately one-half way across the roof, or about 20 to 25 ft. In windy conditions, work with
approximately one half of this distance.
D Pick up the roll and pull until tight. Line up the edge of the roll with the eaves and eliminate any wrinkles or
buckles.
➢ Standing above the underlayment, install the top row of fasteners. Then install the remaining fasteners.
➢ Install subsequent courses in a similar manner, overlapping a minimum of 4-inch on side laps and 6-inch on end
laps. Offset end (vertical) laps not less than 3 feet from course -to -course.
➢ Where an ice barrier is required, install approved self -adhered membrane at eaves, rakes, valleys, penetrations
and other critical areas. Install prior to underlayment at all eaves and valleys. At rakes install underlayment
stopping 6-inch from the rake. Then install an approved self -adhered ice and water protection from the edge of
the roof (rake) and extend over the top of the underlayment a minimum of 6-inch.
6.4.3 Non -Tile Applications @ slopes 2:12 (9.41 to <4:12 (18.41:
➢ Install in a double -coverage method; beginning by applying a half -width starter -strip along the eaves.
➢ Then place a full -width sheet over the starter, with the lower edge flush to the starter's lower edge.
➢ Install succeeding full -width courses up the roof slope in a similar manner to that described in 6.4.2, overlapping
a minimum of 22-inch on side laps and 12-Inch on end laps. Offset end (vertical) laps not less than 3 feet from
course -to -course:
6.5 1 Weather -Armor° CrossOver C)(-L Premium Hybrid Roof Underlayment:
6.5.1 Shall be installed in compliance with the requirements forASTM D226, Type I or II underlayment in FBC Table 1507.1.1

➢ Code Reference: The Exception statement in FBC 1507.1.1 and FBC R905.1.1 requires use of metal cap nails
where the ultimate design wind speed, Vnln equals or exceeds 150 mph.
➢ If underlayment is to be covered with primary roofing materials within five (5) days of application,, and there is
no wind, use a min. 1-inch long corrosive resistant nails with a min. 3/8-inch head, 1-inch plastic caps or nails
with tin caps (ring shank nail leg is recommended). Do not use staples.
✓ Fasten underlayment minimum of 24-inch o.c. at the center of the roll and at both side laps. This is achieved
by fastening at every target symbol (+) printed on the underlayment.
➢ If underlayment is left exposed more than five (5) days, or under windy conditions, 1-inch ring shank plastic caps
or ring -shank nails with tin caps shall be used and the fastening density shall increase.
✓ Fasten both outside laps max.12-inch o.c. and the center of the roll max.18-inch o.c. Use the pattern guide
to measure lengths with every dot measuring 2-inch o.c. and the midpoint of the 24-inch o.c, targets marked
