On some multi - section homes a electrical cross -over connection must be made. See Figure 1 below to connect the cross -over. The installer of the home must inspect and lest the smoke alarms during the installation process, Any smoke alarm that does not meet the inspection or testing requirements must be replaced and retested. The inspection and testing requirements are listed below. 1) If home is a multi -section home, complete the electrical cross -over connection as shown in figure 1. Assure that power has not been connectedtothehomeprior to making electrical cross -over connections. 2) If the home has been provided with a basement stairwell access, then a smoke alarm has been provided to protect the basement area. Ajunction box has been installed on the underside of the floor near the basement stairway opening (within 3 feet). Install provided smoke alarm to the junction box per the alarm manufacturer instructions. 3) After the necessary electrical connections have been made, visually inspect each smoke alarm. Observe the green LED. A constant green light indicates the smoke alarm is receiving 120V AC.power. 4) Firmly depress the Push -To -Test button for at least 5 seconds. The smoke alarm will sound a loud beep about 4 times a second. The alarm may sound for up to 10 seconds after releasing the Push -To -Test button. 5) Since smoke alarms are interconnected, all smoke alarms should sound an alarm within 3 seconds after any test button is pushed and the tested smoke alarm sounds. 6) If any alarm floes not sound, replace the alarm with the same make and model alarm and retest. If smoke alarm still fails to alarm, contact the Skyline Division Service Department that built the home for further information. See the provided smoke alarm manufacturer instructions for additional testing and operating information. See the Skyline Corporation Manufactured Home Installation Manual for all other setup information. 14/3 NM Cable (Smoke alarm circuit) 20 Amp Non -Metallic cable splice - Type NM-0 or cable splice manufactured by Molex -etc (part no. 19041), 20 Art NM{2or cable splice manufactured by Molex -etc (part no. 19041). 314" x 6" Notch (max.) in Perimeter joists. Box 2168 Ocala, A 34478-2168 Dear Mr. Bland, This letter is in response to our April 17, 2002 telephone conversation. That conversation concerned the attachment of site built structures to Skyline manufactured homes produced at your division. Specifically, may a screen room with a gable type roof be attached to an endwall? The addendum to the installation instructions for site attached carport or screen room (Sec. 4, M. 51 page 91 - attached) allows a screen room to.be attached to an endwall. However, the addendum shows a carport type shed roof attached to a sidewall. A gable type roof truss may be attached to the endwall framing of the manufactured home provided that the load -transferring beam is attached directly to theendwall studs. The uplift and gravity loads from the attached structure must be transferred to the endwall studs. See the attached sketch for further information. I trust this information will meet your needs. Feel free to call me at the above number if you have any further questions or comments. CC: John Mikel File BRINGING Amu BOME. BRINGING Awn FUN. Framing for screen room gable roof. For larger cuts and tears, or for sealing double -wide units, patches made from the same or equivalent undersiding material should be used. Cut the patch to a size at least 2" wider than the area to be repaired, and fasten on all four sides with an adhesive tape such M as Ideal Tape H2000, United Tape UT-145, Firstline IIigh Tach 620, United Tape UT 20C, Nashua 357, Shepherd CP-1, Shelter's BL #1000 and newly submitted Light Fabrication 3M tape. Other tapes that will provide satisfactory repair and are part of current production instructions can be used if the adhesion is deemed acceptable on the Home Mate Undersidingrm Patches and/or repair tapes may also be applied with a contact adhesive, such as 3M High Strength #90 spray adhesive. The repair area should be clean and dry, and the patch should be cut to be a minimum oft" wider on all sides than the area to be repaired. When making patches of the film, make sure that the "grain" of the profile of the patch is places in the same direction whenever possible for maximum adhesion and surface contact. Two coats of the adhesive should be sprayed on both the surface of the film to be repaired, and on the patch (apply the second coat perpendiculanto thefirst). Allow the adhesive I-5 minutes to set, and then apply the patch to the area to be repaired. Press firmly to assure proper adhesion, bemmg careful to avoid as many air pockets and wrinkles as possible. Welding patch material to the repair area using a hot iron is NOT recommended, as the welding process will result in the material loosing much of its strength in the patched area. Follow either of the above methods instead. YOUTFOUILe 601 County Road 17 • P.O. Box 98 • Elkhart, IN 46515 • (219) 295-4400 • Fax (219) 295-5290
