Remove the sheathing (approx. 12" wide) at the ridge beam on each half which was temporarily secured to the roof at the factory. (Note that there is a notch in the sheathing for the installation of the right vent.) 3. Bolt the ridge beam together as outlined in the Special Instructions for Double Wide Set -Up in the Manufactured Home Installation Instructions. .4. See Figure 1. Replace sheathing using 16 gauge x 7/16" x 1-1/2" staples or 8d twist nails 4 inches on center at butt joints and 3 fasteners at each rafter between joints. Maintain the gap bet- ween the sheathing and the ridge beam where the ridge vent is to be installed. 5. Tack roofing underlayment back in place. 6. Center and staple the additional strip of underlay- ment on the ridge. 7. Fasten the drip cap to the sheathing at the roof's edge (above underlayment). B. Complete the installation of shingles (see Fig. 2). In the area of the ridge vent is to be installed, use a utility knife to cut away the shingles and underlayment along the edge of the sheathing. 10. Insert the provided end plug into one end of the ridge vent section. Center vent over slot. Plugg- ed end should overlap slot in roof sheathing 6 inches. Make sure vent's support walls sit flat on roof and that filter is secure between shingles and vent. Snap a chalk line at each side of vent to provide proper alignment and fit (see Fig. 4). 11. Pre -fasten first section using 2 - 2" roofing nails through pre -drilled nail holes on each end. (Do not nail through boss in center of vent.) Continue to fasten remaining sections leaving 1/8" gap bet- ween each section. Also make certain vent sup- port walls are flat on roof and filter is secure bet- ween shingles and vent (see Fig. 5). 12. If required, use utility knife to cut final section to length. End of final section should overlap slot in sheathing by 6 inches. Use factory cut tabbed end of vent and insert provided end plug. Pre -fasten final section in place (see Fig. 6). 13. Install: ridge shingles: to area of ridge not covered by ridge vents. Start at the vent and work towards roof edges (see Fig. 7). 14. Nail ridge vent cap shingles in place using 2" roofing nails. Start at one end of vent and work towards other end. Nail shingles in place utiliz- ing 5" shingles exposure (see Fig. 8). Use asphalt roofing cement or silicone based sealant to seal between roof ridge and end caps of vent. 15. Install the closure cap at the eave joint (see Fig. 9).
