M. Engineering and Testing, Inc. is pleased to submit this geotechnical exploration report for the referenced project. This letter describes our exploration, and presents our conclusions. The project consists of a 60 x 28 feet modular residential structure currently constructed on a concrete slab. The structure is supported by 8 x 16 inch masonry blocks resting on 16 x 16 x 4 inch concrete pads placed on the existing concrete slab. We understand the foundations have been designed for a soil bearing capacity of 2,000 pounds per square foot. FIELD EXPLORATIONS The subsurface conditions at the project site were explored on July 22, 2002, with two (2) Auger (AB) borings made through holes that had been cut in the concrete slab for tie -down anchors. Hand cone penetrometer (HCP) tests were conducted in the auger borings. The approximate locations of the explorations are noted on the Boring Location Plan. The depths indicated on the boring logs are below the ground surface at the time the borings were made. Auger borings were performed in general accordance with ASTM D 1452, "Practice for Soil Investigation and Sampling by Auger Borings". The HCP test, in conjunction with information about the soil type, is empirically correlated to the relative density of subsurface soils. FINDINGS The subsurface soils observed in the borings generally were fine sands from the existing surface to the bottom of the borings at depths of four feet. The HCP readings indicated firm to medium dense soils to eight feet, the termination of the soundings. Ground water was encountered six inches below existing grade at the completion of the borings. Modular Structure at 1220 Copenhaver Rd., Fort Pierce, Florida Project No. D-02143 Based on the borings, the footings can be proportioned using a soil bearing pressure of 2,000 pounds per square foot (psi). CLOSURE This report has been prepared in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical engineering practices in the State of Florida. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made. We do not guarantee performance in any respect, only that our work meets normal standards of professional care. Our recommendations are based on the project information furnished to us, the results of our field explorations and our past experience. They do not reflect variations in subsurface conditions that may exist between our borings and in unexplored areas of the site. The nature and extent of such variations may not become evident until further explorations are made or construction is underway. Should such variations be observed, we recommend that A. M. Engineering and Testing, Inc. be requested to observe the actual site conditions and re-evaluate our recommendations, if necessary. Environmental concerns, including (but not limited to) the possibility that hazardous materials or petroleum contaminated soils or groundwater may be present on the project site, were not included in the scope of work. Furthermore, our explorations did not include determination or delineation of "wetland" areas. A. M.
