Introduction
The 243 Is a large capacity, general-purpose gee pressure
regulator.
Its outstanding performance and versatility make it an ex-
cellent choice for use on industrial meter sets, combustion
equipment, boilers, bumers, unit heaters, furnaces, ovens and
other applications.
Use it for natural gas, air, dry CO:, propane, butane, L.P.G.,
nitrogen, and others. Special materials are available for cer-
tain corrosive gases.
In addition to the standard models and Internal relief models
covered in this bulletin, the 243 is.also available with low pres-
sure cut-off, with built-in monitor, and as a pilot operated regu-
lator (outlet pressures to 35 psig), a back pressure valve, a relief
valve, a vacuum regulator and a vacuum breaker. For Informs -
with Code B31.8.
Note: The term standard refers to Non-IRV configurations.

ftimperature Limits
The Model 243 Service Regulators can be used for flowing tem-
peratures from -20° F to 150°F.
Burled Service
The Model 243 Service Regulators are not recommended for
buried service.
Installation and Stall
(See Illustrations on Page
1. Make certain that regulator and piping are free of dirt,
moisture, foreign matter and other debris. `
2. Be sureall shipping screens or covers are removed 'and
regulator is Installed with flow in correct direction.
3. Regulator may be installed in any position; right-slde=up, iup=
side down, vertical pipe, horizontal pipe, diagonal pipe, etc.
By loosening union bolts,(16) , the diaphragm case assembly
may be rotated to various positions in relation to the body.
Make certain (16) are re -tightened to hold diaphragm case
assembly In new position and to reseal.
CAUTION
The diaphragm case vent must be positioned
to protect against flooding, drain water, ice
formation, trafl/o, tampering, etc. The vent
must be protected against nest building
animals, bees, Insects, etc. to prevent vent
blockage and minimize the chances for
foreign material from collecting /n the vent
side of the regulator diaphragm.
4. Make sure there are no leaks and all connections are firm
and tight. Tighten flange bolts evenly and firmly. On screw-
ed connections apply pipe dope to male threads only.
5. On regulators arranged for External Control Line, run pipe
or tubing from 1/3 NPT connection in lower case to the con-
trol connection in the outlet piping. This control piping should, not
be less than '/z in size and should be adequately
protected against breakage (regulators go wide open if the
control line is broken). In general, 'the control connection
should be at least 8 pipe diameters from the regulator and
In as straight a run of pipe as possible. The connection itself
must be smooth on the inside of the pipe. Pitch the. control
line away from the regulator and avoid moisture dockets.
Keep. Inside of control line clean. Never install any type of
automatic shut-off device, which closes completely, ibe-
tween the regulator outlet and the control line connection.
CAUTION
It la the user's responsibility to assure that all
regulator vents and/or vent lines exhaust to a
non -hazardous location away from any potential
sources of Ignition. Where vent line are
used, It Is the users responsibility to assure
that each service regulator Is Indivldualty vented
and that common vent lines are not used.
6. Adjust cutlet pressure (set point) by removing cap (1) or,
and turning adjustment spring button (3). On 243-8, HP
remove cap (1a), loosen locknut and turn adjustment
screw (tb). Turn clockwise to increase and counterclock-
wise to decrease outlet pressure. Only adjust when gas is
flowing through regulator. When adjustment is completed,
seal cap (1) or (1e) must be securely screwed Into place.
The absence of this seal cap can result in unstable
operation.

Installation and Start Up (Continued)
7. On regulators with Internal Relief Valve, there is no adjust-
ment for the internal relief. It Is fixed, with relief beginning
at approximately 9" w.c. to 20" w.c., above regulator set point,
depending on relief spring (11 k) used.
Internal Relief Valves must be carefully sized. For informa-
tion, contact your Sensus Representative.
B. Regulators installed Indoors must be vented outside. Run
vent pipe from regulator vent connection to safe place out-
side. Vent piping should be as short and direct as possible.
Vent piping for regulators with internal relief v�lve (Models
243-12-2 or 243.8-2) must be large enough to ent all relief
valve discharge to atmosphere without excessive back
pressure and resulting excessive pressure in regulator.
Vent pipe outlet must be.protected against nest building
animals, bees, insects, etc., and positioned to protect
allow free and unobstructed passage of air or gas.

Servicing
1. Make sure the regulator is entirely depressured before dis-
assembling.
2. Carefully note location and position of all disassembled parts
to be certain reassembly is correct. Inspect each part and
replace those that are wom or damaged or otherwise
unsatisfactory.
3. For access to valve (21) and orifice (24) loosen union bolts
(16) and remove diaphragm case assembly from body.
To remove valve (21), first remove hair pin cotter (20b).
Orifice (24) unscrews from body. Use 1-5/8" hex socket
"thinwall" type. When replacing orifice use moderate
amount of pipe dope on orifice threads.
4. Before reassembling and tightening union bolts (16), make
certain Tetraseal (17) is in position.
5. To replace diaphragm; remove spring (4), remove flange
bolts (8) and nuts (9), and disassemble diaphragm
assembly. Remove old diaphragm (11a) from diaphragm pan
(11b). Remove old adhesive from the diaphragm pan using
a solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone (MEK).
To reassemble, apply a thin, even layer of a rubber based
adhesive such as 3M Industrial Adhesive #EC-847 to the
cleaned, prepared side of the diaphragm pan.
Attach the diaphragm to the adhesive side of the
diaphragm pan, being careful to align the center hole of the
diaphragm with the corresponding center hole in the
diaphragm pan. Make certain all parts are reassembled in
their correct order and bolts (8) are ti 11ted
tened to a torque of
150 in-lbs. Bolts must be tight enouto prevent leakage
but not thragm oo tight that the diapaterial is crushed or
damaged. Diaphragm must not be or pinched.
6. Upon completion of servicing, make certain that regulator
installation is entirely free of leaks.

The Model 243 Regulators make excellent monitors. They can
act as standby regulators installed in series which assumes
control if a failure in the operating regulator permits the outlet
pressure to exceed the set -point. It can be located in either the
upstream or the downstream position.
When a Model 243 Regulator is used to monitor a regulator
with an identical inner valve (another 243 Regulator), the total
maximum capacity through both regulators can be figured at
70% of the capacity of one'regulator alone. This applies with
the monitor located either up or downstream.

IMP RTANT:
Dun start-up, a pressure gauge must be connected to the outlet
pipin etween the regulator outlet and the downstream shutoff
valve t . losely monitor the outlet pressure. When checking the
regulat or set -point and lock -up, provision must be made to

The regulate set -point is factory adjusted as specified on
the order. Set -point should be checked with small gas flow (10%
of maximum regulator capacity or less). Open the valve down-
stream of the regulator before turning, on gas. Slowly open the
inlet valve while monitoring the outlet pressure gauge. Small flow
should be set by adjusting the outlet valve.
. WARNING:
Always closely monitor the outlet pressure gauge during start-up
while opening or closing valves and making adjustments. If the
outlet pressure continues to increase above the specified lock -up
pressure, open the downstream valve to discharge the excess
pressure and close the inlet valve.
Only adjust set -point when gas is flowing through the regulator.
DO NOT adjust if regulator is locked -up (tight shutoff).
IMPORTANT•
where set -point is in the top third of the spring range. Large flow
could result in over -stressing the spring orloss of lock -up from
the spring compressing solid. If the set -point adjustment must be
made at large flow (60% to 100% of maximum regulator capacity)
and set -point is in upper third of spring range, use the next higher
range spring.
After set -point has been determined to be correct, check for
lock -up by slowly closing the outlet valve. Again closely monitor
the regulator outlet pressure gauge. Regulator must be fully capa-
ble of tight lock -up. If outlet pressure continues to rise above the
lock -up pressure, open the downstream valve to discharge excess
pressure and close the inlet shutoff valve. If the pressure goes
above lock -up, the regulator is not closing properly. Make the nec-
essary corrections before resuming start-up.
9. Prompt attention is essential if there is regulator trouble,
if gas leaks from the vent or elsewhere from the regulator,
or if leaks develop in the piping. Failure to shut down
the regulator may cause serious hazards.
10. The outlet of the vent piping must allow for the free and
unobstructed passage of air and gas.
The diaphragm case vent must be positioned to protect against
flooding, drain water, Ice formation, traffic, tampering, etc.
The vent must be protected against nest building animals, bees,
insects, etc. to prevent vent blockage and minimize the chances
for foreign material from collecting in the vent side of the
regulator diaphragm.
.II is the user's responsibility to assure that all regulator
vents and/or vent lines exhaust to a non -hazardous location
away from any potential sources of ignition. Where vent lines
are used, it is the user's responsibility to assure that each
regulator Is individually vented and that common vent lines
are not used.
Monitor Regulators and External Control Lines
When bypassing a regulator with an external control line, the
control line valve. must be closed before the bypasavalve is
opened. Failure to do so could result in the diaphragm being
exposed to the inlet pressure.
Use With Other Gases
1. Do not use Sensus regulators on corrosive gases unless
authorized by Sensus for a specific corrosive condition.
2. Where the gas Is propane or butane (LPG) and the regulator
has an internal relief, valve (IRV), special care is required with
the regulator vent. Because propane and butane are heavier
than air, they do not disperse readily in the atmosphere.
Instead, they tend to collect in low places. Since large volumes
can discharge from the regulator vent at times of emergency,
care must be taken to pipe any such discharge to atmosphere
at a safe place to prevent any gathering or migration of
explosive mixtures in low areas.
General Inspection and Service Instructions
1. Inspect the regulator periodically to make sure it is in
inspection on the basis of severity of service and applicable
laws and regulations. As a minimum recommendation,
pressure regulating and limiting equipment should be
inspected at intervals not exceeding 15 months, but at least
once each calendar year.
2. If the regulator is to be moved to another location, make sure
its construction is compatible with the new pressure and .
flow conditions.
. WARNING:
Before any disassembly of the regulator, make sure it is completely
depressurized. Pressure must be fully released from the inlet, the
outlet, and any control line connections. Failure to adequately
depressurize could result in serious injury.
3. Carefully note the location and position of all disassembled
parts to be certain reassembly is correct. Inspect each part
carefully and replace any that are worn, damaged or otherwise
unsatisfactory.
4. Adjustment screw lubrication should be checked whenever the
regulator is serviced. Make sure the threads are fully coated
with lubricant. Where there is evidence of thread wear, such
as loose fit or excessive sideplay, the worn parts must be
replaced.
. WARNING:
Failure from worn threads can result in serious personal injury.
Even at 10 psig outlet pressure, the force exerted on the adjust-
ment screw by spring compression can be great. Therefore,
adjustment screw lubrication and thread condition must be given
careful attention.
5. Upon completion of servicing, make certain that the regulator

Anderson Moore Construction Corporation wishes to extend our appreciation for PSL
County Building Department cooperation and consideration in issuing a Conditional
Certificate of Occupation (dated 10-16-06 — attached).
At the time of issuance, Bill Logsdon was very cooperative and noted that subject
Certificate could be extended if required. On 11-13-06, AMC issued the attached memo
requesting an extension of an additional 30 days - to 12-16-06 (see attached). However,
over the holidays, I simply forgot to issue an additional extension letter — I apologize for
this mishap.
At this late date, it seems that Architect has finally processed the SFWMD permit (see
attached E-Mail) and Owner's Paint Booths have been installed, inspected, and are in
final process of operating. Accordingly, AMC is confident that we will close out Project
in next 3 weeks (by January 26, 2006). AMC respectfully requests that PSL County
Building Department extend our Temporary Certificate of Occupancy accordingly.
As per your request, I have attached a list of outstanding items and proposed close out
dates that we plan to close out as soon as possible. Finally, I have attached a check in the
amount of $ 100.0o for processing Conditional Certificates of Occupation.

4. All requests for an extension beyond 30 days must be made in writing to the Building Official stating the reason
for the request. Power may be removed from the site and/or a Stop Work Order issued if the Final Inspection
has not been approved within 30 days. A fee of $100.00 will be required to lift the Stop Work Order.
WE HEREBY RELEASE AND AGREE TO HOLD HARMLESS, ST. LUCIE COUNTY, AND
THEIR EMPLOYEES FROM ALL LIABILITIES AND CLAIMS OF'ANY TYPE OF NATURE

II. Inspection Requirements:
a
1. Address numbers shall be posted per county Ord. No. 7.05.09.
2. All entrances, exits, windows and garage doors must be lockable.
3. All circuits on exterior shall be terminated in a box with weatherproof cover. The same
applies to a disconnect. If circuits are at or above 7'6" from grade they may be capped with
wire nuts and taped.
4. All breakers must be installed. Any blank pace must be closed b a breaker or approved filler
plates.
5. Interior Wiring: All receptacles, light fixtures and fans must be trimmed. Any fixture below
7'6" from the floor or mezzanine that is not available at the time of inspection must have an
Inviso plate installed. Fixtures at or above that height may be capped with wire nuts and
taped.
6. All smoke detectors must be installed.
7. Kitchen cabinets must be installed; any exception for special conditions or circumstances
must have an approval prior to scheduled inspection.
8. Sewer and water connections must be cgmplete. Only well pumps are excluded from this
requirement.

Dennis,
Anderson Moore Construction Corporation wishes to extend our appreciation for PSL
County Building Department cooperation and consideration in issuing a Conditional
Certificate of Occupation (dated 10-16-06 — attached).
At the time of issuance, Bill Logsdon was very cooperative and noted that subject
Certificate could be extended if required. On 11-13-06, AMC issued the attached memo
requesting an extension of an additional 30 days - to 12-16-06 (see attached). However,
over the holidays, I simply forgot to issue an additional extension letter — I apologize for
this mishap.
At this late date, it seems that Architect has finally processed the SFWMD permit (see
attached E-Mail) and Owner's Paint Booths have been installed, inspected, and are in
final process of operating. Accordingly, AMC is confident that we will close out Project
in next 3 weeks (by January 26, 2006). AMC respectfully requests that PSL County
Building Department extend our Temporary Certificate of Occupancy accordingly.
As per your request, I have attached a list of outstanding items and proposed close out
dates that we plan to close out as soon as possible. Finally, I have attached a check in the
amount of $ 100.0o for processing Conditional Certificates of Occupation.

I, PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to assist Florida's Elevator and Ccnstruc:ion
industries in having rate';/ and altered elevators pass the final initial inspection perforlm=_d
-by State Elevator Inspector employed by the Department of Business and Professional
Regulation, Division of Hotels and Restaurants, Elevator Inspection Progra;n, as
required by State Law.
The genera contractor shall be responsible for builders v,,ork items, until tha
.elevator has:been inspected and a Certificate of Operation has issued by 6he Division.
The elevator construction permit holder (Elevator Company) shall be responsible for the
correction or violations and deficiencies of elevator equipment and for a': Tests of new
and altered equipment until the elevator has been inspected and a Ce t:.cafe of
Operation has been issued by the Division.

This ladder shall meet the requirements of Rule 106.1'd. (NOTE:
Minimum pit depth is 4'0" for standard equipment.)

4. Automatic fan shutdown is required for the HVAC system. Interconnect with the fire alarm system.
A remote test switch for each duct -detector is required.
