Director of Construction ,Lennar Homes Inc. 1733 St. Lucie pest Blvd. Port St Lucie, F1 34986 Dear Ron: Alcan recommends the following fasteners for the installation of our series 437 aluminum windows: - #8 X 2" with Number 6 Pan Head for single hung lambs and glider heads. - 08 X 7/8" Round Head for single hung headers and glider jambs. The above fasteners have been successfully used In the testing of this series of windows and are fabricated from Series 410 stainless steel. Stainless steel was selected to minimize the possibility of galvanic corrosion between the chemicals in cement, the aluminum in the window frame and the fasteners themselves. installation hole diameters in the Series 437 single hung are .145". The design of this window series does not allow significantly larger diameter installation screws. The specified single hung jamb fasteners have a reduced head diameter to minimize interference with the window glass and beading. The 3/16 and 1/4 inch TAPCONS require 5/32 and 3/16 diameter clearance holes. respectively; both appear to be too large to work with the 437 series window. TAPCON availability in stainless steel Is also questioned. The TAPCON system appears to be well suited for the installation of PT buck strips to the masonry opening, but not for the one step installation of window and buck strip as you are proposing. It you have window installation questions, do not hesitate to call. ' Surely; Lyn N. Jo nson Plant Engineer cc: R. J. Kushner N. A.
