Further, be advised that this open permit can result in certain issues arising with regard to your ownership, refinancing or insurance coverage of the property. For example, expired building permits can hinder selling or refinancing one's home, since it may be considered an objection to a clear title. Expired permits can also raise issues with your homeowner's insurance company, especially when a claim is made against the policy. Permits issued prior to April 1, 2005 can be renewed by you and inspected without any additional permit fees being paid. However, if the permit was issued after this date, a permit fee will be required for renewal. Permit renewal requests must be made in writing and submitted, with any required fees, to the Code Compliance Division. In the alternative, if no work was ever performed under the permit, you may make a written request to have it voided. After an inspection confirms that no work was done, the Permit Record will be voided in our system. Please contact our Permitting Department at (772) 462-2167 to let us know if you intend to renew the permit or submit a written request to have it voided. We would appreciate hearing from you within the next sixty days. Sincerely, Christopher Lestrange Code Compliance Manager Building Official
