The LTS, MTS, and HTS series -twist -straps are formed from No. 18, No:16, and No, 14 gage galvanized steel, respectively. See Table 4 for strap model numbers, overall strap lengths, required fasteners, and allowable uplift loads when installed with different fastener schedules. See Figure 5 for a:draW ng of the LFTA connector. 3.1.6 FTA Floor Tie Anchors: the FTA floor tie anchors are used to connect vertically aligned studs between a horizontal wood diaphragm assemblage with floor joists having a ma)dmum 12-inch nominal depth. The FTA2 and FTA5 are formed from No.10 gage galvanized steel, and the FTA7 is formed from No. 3 gage galvanized steel. (ITW Building Components Group Inc. was formerly known as Alpine Engineered Products, Inc., until 2007.) Applicable portions of the 2010 Florida Building Code pertaining to the use of truss plates include section 2303.4, which permits use of metal connector plates, and section 2303.4.6, which requires metal -plate -connected trusses to comply with TPI 1. Section 2306.1 and Chapter 35 more fully describe TPI 1 as TPI 1- 2007, National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Construction, published by the Truss Plate Institute. In addition, sections 2319.17 and 2314.4.9 require satisfaction of this same standard with further provisions applicable in the High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ). The only further provisions cited for the HVHZ specific to the truss plates (as opposed to truss design, erection, or procedural requirements such as having product approval) and not redundant to the TPI 1 specification are in sections 2319.17.2.2.7 and 2319.17.2.2.8 requiring connector plates to meet the requirements shown below. 2319.17.2.2.7: "be not less than 20 gauge galvanized steel meeting ASTM A653... or A 924.... and... identified by the manufacturer's stamp." 2319.17.2.2.8: Semi-annual certification by plate manufacturers of "compliance with the provisions of Section 6 of the Truss Plate Institute, TPI, National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood or gauge of material, and galvanizing to ASTM G 60 as a minimum." All uses of these truss plate products require such a truss design drawing, fabrication of the truss in accordance with the TPI 1 standard, and application of the truss within a structure in accordance with the Florida Building Code. Provisions within the Florida Building Code applicable to wood trusses including design, fabrication and/or erection of the truss and the building, but not specific to the truss plates alone, are outside the scope of this evaluation report and must be considered by those responsible for those design, fabrication and/or erection duties in accordance with the Florida Building Code (for example, see sections 2308.10, 2314.3.2, 2317.1.1, 2319.17.2.3, and other sections). Trusses are assembled using these truss plates pressed into the wood within the tolerances provided by TPI's Quality Criteria for Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses as shown in Section 3 of TPI 1. FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING REFERENCE STANDARD EDITION The above edition of TPI 1 referred to in the Florida Building Code is the 2007 edition (also known as ANSI/TPI 1-2007), as referenced in the 2010 Florida Building Code. The information herein pertaining to the truss plates also satisfies all provisions of each of the 1995 and the 2002 editions of the TPI 1 standard, and this evaluation thus indicates compliance with those editions of TPI 1 as well. Similar code sections exist in the 2004 and 2007 editions of the Florida Building Code to those cited above for the 2010 Florida Building Code, except to the 2002 edition of the TPI 1 standard, thus this evaluation indicates compliance of these products with both of these older editions of the Florida Building Code as well. METHOD OF EVALUATION These truss plates were evaluated in accordance with the TPI 1 standard and, for the Hinge Plate, by the Acceptance Criteria for Metal Hinge Plate Connectors for Wood Trusses, AC283, dated February 2008 and published by the ICC section 104.11.2 of the Florida Building Code. Required tests were conducted by Professional Service Industries, Inc., accredited as demonstrating compliance with ISO Standard 17025 by ]AS certificate TL-280. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND DESIGN VALUES ALPINE WAVE PLATETM: The Wave PlatJm is made from 20 gage (0.0356 inch minimum thickness) ASTM A653 SS Grade 40 steel and a G60 minimum coating. The Wave PlatJm is available in 1-inch increments of both width and length, with selected 0.5 inch increments of width available as well. Alpine Wave Plateem are Identified in accordance with TPI 1 by the embossed symbols "ALPINE" and their unique double offset slot pattern. Design values shall be limited as shown in Tables 1 and 2. ALPINE HIGHER STRENGTH (H & S) PLATES: Alpine H (a/k/a as High strength) and Alpine S (a/k/a as Super high strength) plates are made from 20 gage (0.0356 inch minimum thickness) and 18 gage (0.0466 inch minimum thickness) galvanized steel, respectively, using G90 galvanizing, or equivalent base -metal thickness steel using G60 galvanizing. The steel is ASTM A 653 Grade 60 steel, either HSLAS or SS, with a minimum yield strength of 60 ksi, a minimum ultimate strength of 70 ksi, and a G60 or better coating. Pairs of 0.115 inch wide by 0.33 inch long teeth are punched perpendicular to the plane of the plate, each pair leaving a 0.115 inch wide by 0.49 inch long slot in the plate. The slots are spaced 0.875 inches apart on center lengthwise and grouped in sets of four widthwise, with each set consisting of four slots spaced 0.3125 inches on center widthwise. Adjacent slots across the width are staggered 0.4375 inches lengthwise. Sets of slots are spaced 1.3125 inches apart on center widthwise. There are 6.97 teeth per square inch of plate. Teeth are pointed on the end and V-shaped in cross section. See Figure 2 for details. Alpine H plates are identified in accordance with TPI 1 by the embossed symbols "ALPINE H" and Alpine S plates are identified in accordance with TPI 1 by the embossed symbols "ALPINE S". Design values shall be limited as shown in Tables 1 and 2. ALPINE TRULOX NAIL PLATE: Trulox nail plates are made of 20 gauge (0.0356 inches minimum) galvanized ASTM A653 SS Grade 40 steel or better with a G60 coating. The Trulox nail plate is a flat nailing plate without integral teeth, with 0.131-inch diameter nailing holes spaced 1 inch on center lengthwise and 2/3 connected to wood with separately applied nails, such as 1.375 or 1.5 inch long nails with 0.131 inch or smaller diameter. The Trulox nail plate is identified by its hole pattern and the lack of any integral teeth. Design values shall be limited to nail design values established in accordance with the Florida Building Code and as shown in Table 2. ALPINE HINGE PLATE: Alpine 2x8 Hinge Plates (HP28) are made of 18 gauge (0.0356 inches minimum) galvanized ASTM A653 SS Grade 40 steel or better, with a G60 or better coating. Two 2 inch by 4 inch 18 gauge metal plates are overlapped by 1 inch and grommetted together with a brass grommet through a punched hole in each plate. Imposed forces at the joint and within the truss containing the joint shall be determined using a structural model with a pin at the hinge joint location. Allowable design values are applicable when the connection is made with a 1 inch, or smaller, gap between the two wood members at the connection.
