Summary of Earthwork Observations and Density Testing for the Building Pad:
This summarizes the earthwork observations and density testing during the preparation of the building pad for the
proposed Family Dollar at 10331 Lennard Road in Port St. Lucie, FL. The earthwork was performed between
February 3rd and March 71h, 2016. Our on -site contact was Kevin O'Steen with Hutton Construction. Our field
personnel typically discussed the daily earthwork activities with Kevin and provided verbal results of the daily
observations and testing.
As outlined in the Geotechnical Engineering Services Report prepared by KCI Technologies (KCI), dated
November 19, 2012, there was uncontrolled fill and buried debris that need to be removed from the building pad
area and replaced with compacted embankment fill. At the time of our initial observations it appeared that some of
the uncontrolled fill had been removed from the building pad area.'The site contractor utilized a large trackhoe to
excavate about 8 to 8 1/z feet of uncontrolled fill and buried debris from the building pad. Based on the survey
.stakes in the field (by others), the building excavation was oversized approximately 10 feet beyond the building
footprint. The bottom of the excavation ranged from approximate elevation +8 NAVD in the NW corner of the
excavation to about elevation +9- NAVD along the east side of the excavation (see attached sketch). The soils
encountered at the excavation bottom consisted of a poorly graded gray to light gray fine to medium grained sand
that were judged to be native soils. A dozer was used to level the excavation bottom and push the standing water
to the lowest point (NW corner) of the excavation. The contractorused pumps to dewater the excavation bottom. A
large vibratory smooth' drum roller used to surface compact the. soils at the excavation bottom prior to
embankment fill placement.
The embankment fill was relatively clean sand with less than 10% fines imported from another site consisting of
gray and brown fine to medium sand. The fill was hauled to the site with double -axle dump trucks and placed in
thin, uniform lifts about 1-foot thick with a dozer then compacted with the large vibratory smooth drum roller. In -
place density tests.were taken as each lift of embankment fill in the building pad area. A total of thirty (30) density
tests were performed, all tests met or exceeded the density requirement of 95% Modified Proctor density (ASTM D
1557).
Based on our observations and testing, the earthwork to prepare, the building pad was completed in general
accordance with the project plans and specifications. The daily earthwork observation reports, laboratory Proctor
test reports and in -place density test reports have been previously submitted. As requested, original signed and
sealed reports will be delivered to Mr. Joe Cicio with the St. Lucie County Building Inspection Department.
