To Whom It May Concern,
Creswell Engineers and Constructors, hic. (CECI) is the engineer of record for the
interior renovations being constructed at the subject address.
The contractor has substituted materials that are different than the permitted plans in
order to match the existing conditions, namely, the use of wood wall studs, wood door
jambs and a wood door. Please note that the use of these materials does not affect the UL
fire rated assemblies from the original plans.
The original plans call for 5/8" drywall over metal studs which has a UL wall assembly
designation of U419. Partition walls constructed of 5/8" drywall and wood studs have a
UL wall assembly designation of U305. Both the U419 and U305 wall assemblies are one
hour rated wall assemblies.
The office door on the permitted plans show a one hour rated door, however, the
materials for the door is not called out on the plans. The contractor can provide a one
hour UL rated door (wood construction is acceptable) or he may use a door rated for
thirty minutes. It is additionally noted that doors are allowed to have ratings of one half
less than the wall assembly that they serve. In this case, the door only needs to have a
thirty minute rating in order to provide the same overall protection as the walls per the
building code.
