(UES) was at the referenced project to provide construction materials testing services. Universal attempted to determine the relative density of the native sail at a level of about 4 to 6 feet beneath the floor slab of the building. To do so, we performed dynamic cone penetrometer tests at 1 location inside the building and found that the native soil level from 4 to 6 feet deep to be dense. For comparison we also performed dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) test outside of the building beyond the filled area for the top 2 feet of native soil, which is considered to be the equivalent to the condition of the native soil inside the building prior to construction. We found these native soils to be mainly loose to medium dense with the DCP test. The actual density of these native soils was also tested with drive sleeve apparatus and was found to be loose when compared to the modified proctor maximum dry density. Based on the test results, it is our opinion that the density of the top 2 feet of native soil was greatly improved via compactive efforts during construction. This layer is estimated to be at 95% of the maximum dry density or greater. Also the encountered native soil was found to consist of sand that is suitable to support the building. The results of the observations and/or tests are summarized on the attached sheets. The reports are numbered as follows 47642 AR1, 47666 ARD1, 47666 DT1, 47666 S7. While on site, the technician observed the general condition of the areas to be tested and performed 6 density test(s) for native subgrade. All test(s) were performed in accordance with the ASTM D-6938 Nuclear Gauge Method and were found to meet the project compaction requirements of 95% of the maximum dry density per ASTM D-1557. The Contractor was notified of the test results or a copy was left for their records. This test(s) was performed without deviation from ASTM procedure.
