In my letter dated September 8, 20151 recommended to weld a 4" x 1/4" plate to the outside
flange at frame 3 - column A in order for the frame to meet the Florida Building Code 2014.
The plates were be located to the inside of the building and on each side of the column web.
However, at the time I did not realize that this column was the brace point for a wind column.
Therefore, it is impossible to install the plates this way.
I am now recommending that a 7'V? x 1/4" plate be installed on the back side of the flange.
This plate shall continue from the base plate up the column to the plate located just below
the eave strut. The plates shall be welded all around with a 1/4" weld.

Originally the pre-engineered building f r Betlar, Inc. located in Fort Pierce, Florida was
designed to meet the Florida Building Code 2010. It has now become necessary for the
building design to meet the Florida Building Code 2014. After analyzing the building to meet
the FBC 14, I have found that the only change needed is to weld a 4" x 1/4" plate to the
outside flange at frame 3 - column A. The plates shall be located to the inside of the building
and on each side of the column web. The plates shall continue from the base plate to the top
Range of the rafter. The plates will have to be split at the haunch of the rafter to miss the
stiffener plates. The plates shall be welded all around with a 1/4" weld.
