4. CONCRETE REPAIRS
A. ALL CONCRETE DEMOLITION AND REPAIRS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INTERNATIONAL CONCRETE REPAIR
INSTITUTE.
B. SAWCUT AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE AREA TO BE REPAIRED IN A RECTANGULAR PATTERN. AVOID LEAVING ISLANDS OF
SOUND CONCRETE DUE TO THE "ANODIC RING EFFECT" OF CORROSION. DO NOT CUT ANY REINFORCING STEEL. IF STEEL IS
FOUND, REDUCE DEPTHS OF CUTS.
C. REMOVE ALL DAMAGED AND UNSOUND CONCRETE. IF ACTIVE CORROSION IS'FOUND ON REINFORCEMENT, CONTINUE
REMOVING CONCRETE UNTIL 6" OF CLEAN STEEL IS FOUND. REMOVE CONCRETE AROUND CORRODED STEEL TO A DEPTH OF
3/4". IF DAMAGED AREAS EXCEED ESTIMATED AREAS, CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL TO CONTINUE
DEMOLITION.
D. CHIP CONCRETE SURFACES TO OBTAIN A SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF 1/4" (+-1/8"). SAWCUT AROUND THE EDGES FOR CLEAN
LINES AT THE PERIMETER.
E. CLEAN EXISTING REINFORCEMENT WITH POWER TOOLS TO REMOVE SCALE AND RUST. IF STEEL HAS LOST 20%OR MORE OF
THE CROSS SECTIONAL AREA, ADDITIONAL REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH A FULL LAP SPLICE OR DRILL AND
DOWEL ANEW BAR (SAME SIZE) WITH 12" EMBEDMENT.
F. AN ALTERNATE TO CLEANING EXISTING REINFORCEMENT IS FOR THE CONTRACTOR TO REPLACE EXISTING STEEL WITH NEW
STEEL WITH THE SAME GRADE, DIAMETER, SPACING, AND LOCATION AS THE EXISTING STEEL LAP SPLICE REQUIREMENTS
SHALL BE FOLLOWED.
G. WHEN DOWELING NEW BARS, HOLES SHALL BE LOCATED 2" AWAY FROM EXISTING BARS TO MINIMIZE SPALLING AND
CRACKING OF EXISTING CONCRETE. FOLLOW EPDXY MANUFACTURERS REQUIREMENTS TO PREPARE HOLES.
S. CONCRETE PLACEMENT
A. COAT ALL REINFORCING WITH A CORROSION INHIBITOR PRIOR TO PLACING NEW CONCRETE.
B. COAT SURFACES OF CONCRETE TO RECEIVE NEW CONCRETE WITH A BONDING AGENT PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF NEW
CONCRETE.
C. FORMWORK SHALL MEET THE GUIDELINES OF THE "CONCRETE FORMING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION GUIDE" FROM THE
AMERICAN PLYWOOD ASSOCIATION.
a. FORMWORK, SHORING AND RESHORES SHALL REMAIN IN PLACE FOR 14 DAYS MINIMUM, OR WHEN TEST RESULTS

F. CONSOLIDATE CONCRETE THOROUGHLY DURING CONCRETE OPERATIONS.
G. CURE CONCRETE FOR FIVE DAYS TO MINIMIZE SHRINKAGE CRACKS. EVAPORATION RETARDER MAY BE NECESSARY IN HOT,
WINDY CONDITIONS. IF BURLAP MATERIAL IS USED, CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE WIND DOES NOT REMOVE MATERIAL.
H. FINISHES SHALL MATCH EXISTING PROFILES. CONTRACTOR SHALL APPLY WATERPROOFING AND FLOOR FINISHES PER
MANUFACTURES RECOMMENDATION. STUCCO REPAIRS SHALL HAVE A BONDING AGENT ATTHE EXISTING SURFACES AND
