SECTION 07612 - SHEET METAL ROOFING, ALUMINUM (040)
PARTI-GENERAL
1.1 SECTION REQUIREMENTS
Project #61007
A. Submittals: A comprehensive package of product data, shop drawings, material samples, color
samples and any additional information required to fully describe the contractor's intent. Refer to
article 24 of the General Conditions.
B. Comply with SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" unless otherwise indicated.
C. Roof system shall meet minimum wind uplift resistance as required by the Florida Building
Code.
D. Roof system shall have Florida Product Approval for components and cladding or Miami -Dade
Notice of Approval.
E. Quality Assurance: Installer Qualifications: Utilize an installer having demonstrated experience
on projects of similar size and complexity. yy��

2.1 ROOFING SHEET METALS
A. Aluminum Sheet: Fabricated from aluminum sheet, ASTM B 209M for alclad Alloy 3105; 0.040
inch thick. (Panel size can be manufacturer's standard, guaranteeing that it meets wind uplift
criteria and resists oil -panning.)
Products (Basis of Design):
a. Englert Metal Roofing, Series S2500. Panels shall be 2" high, 12" wide, with
mechanically seamed system.

b. Petersen Aluminum Corporation, Tite-Loc Plus. Panels shall be 2" high, 12" wide,
with mechanically seamed system.

2. Finish: Manufacturer's standard fluoropolymer 2-coat system with topcoat containing not
less than 70 percent polyvinylidene fluoride resin by weight; complying with AAMA 2604.

2.2 ACCESSORIES
A. Underlayment: Self -adhering, polyethylene -faced, polymer -modified, bituminous sheet
ASTM D 1970; designed for installation under metal roofs, and high -temperatures.
1. Acceptable manufacturers:

B. Slip Sheet: Rosin -sized building paper, 5 lb/100 sq. ft. (As Needed)
C. Metal Accessories: The Contractor shall provide all materials required to complete a weather
tight roofing system as per the construction documents, including: clips, fasteners, fleshings,
penetration boots, ridge closure strips, roof vent, trim, copings, fascias, valley pans, rake closures,
gutters, downspouts and louvers. All exposed accessories shall match the sheet metal roofing
panels in finish and material type.
2.3 SUBSTITUTIONS
A. By owner approval only. All material samples and submittals shall be made to the owner's
representative and shall be pre -approved prior to installation.
2.4 FABRICATION �
A. Fabricate sheet metal roofing to comply with details sho n et hda' s AC s
"Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" that apply to the design, dimensions, metal, and other
characteristics of installation indicated.
Standing -Seam Roofing: Form standing -seam pans with finished seam height of 2" inches
(or manufacturer's standard design). Structural standing seams shall be interlocking, with
sealant applied at the panel interlock.
2.5 PERFORMANCE
A. The roof system shall have Florida Product Approval for components and cladding or Miami -
Dade Notice of Approval.
B. The panels shall meet the requirements of ASTM E1592 for Wind Uplift Performance as required
by Florida Building Code.
C. Panels shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E-1646-95 standard test method for water
penetration of metal roof panel system by uniform static air pressure difference.
D. Air infiltration: No greater than 0.014 CFM/Ft2 at a test pressure of 1.57 PSF and 0.009 CFM/Ft2
at a test pressure of 6.24 PSF per ASTM E-283-73.

Q. Panel shall display a flame spread classification of a Class I when tested in accordance with
vvv ASTM E-84-87.
G. Manufacturer's Warranty: Submit, for Owner's acceptance, manufacturer's standard warranty
document executed by authorized company official. Manufacturer's warranty is in addition to,
and not a limitation of, other rights Owner may have under contract documents. Provide
warranties as follows:
1. Warranty covering the metal substrate against rupture, perforation and structural failure
due to normal atmospheric corrosion.
2. Warranty on paint finish against cracking, peeling, blistering, chalk and color change.
3. Base Metal Warranty Period: 20 years beginning with date of substantial completion.
4. Finish Warranty Period: 20 years for Standard Colors.
PART 3-EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. General: Comply with the following:
1. SMACNA Architectural Sheet Metal Manual.
2. NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual and Handbook of Accepted Roofing
Knowledge.
3. Manufacturer's Construction Details Handbook.
4. AISC Steel Construction Manual.
5. AISI Cold Formed Steel Design Manual.
B. Install

1. Apply slip sheet over underlayment before installing metal roofing.
C. Anchor roofing securely in place, with provisions for thermal and structural movement. Install
with concealed fasteners unless otherwise indicated.
D. Separate dissimilar metals with a bituminous coating or polymer -modified, bituminous sheet
underlayment.
E. Coat unpainted back side of aluminum roofing with bituminous coating where it will contact
treated wood, ferrous metal, or cementitous construction.
F. Install work with lines and corners of exposed units true and accurate. Form exposed faces flat
and free of buckles, excessive waves, and avoidable tool marks, considering temper and
reflectivity of metal. Provide uniform, neat seams with minimum exposure of solder, welds, and
sealant. Fold back sheet metal to form a hem on concealed side of exposed edges unless otherwise
indicated.
1. Install cleats to hold sheet metal panels in position. Attach each cleat with two fasteners
to prevent rotation.
2. Screw, ( old stated nail), cleats not more than 12 inches o.c. Bend tabs over nails.

G. Seal joints as shown and as required for leak proof construction. Provide low -slope transverse
seams using cleats where backup of moisture may occur.
H. Make no face penetrations or perforations in metal panels by fasteners except as indicated or with
specific approval by Architect.
I. Install all panels continuous from ridge to eaves with no horizontal end laps.
J. End lap all flashing and trim at least 3" (76 mm).
K. Miter and solder all gutters and seal with a lining of ice and water shield membrane applied at the
laps to provide watertight condition.
I. Apply sealant at all butt joints.
2. Counter -flash or paint to match all soldered areas.
L. Treat all valleys with a layer of ice and water shield spread out at least 24" (610 mm) each side
from the center of the valley, on both sides, before applying valley flashing.
M. End lap at least 6" (152 mm) at joints.
N. Exercise care during installation to avoid damage or scratching of the panels.
1. Avoid walking on metal roof panels after installation is completed.
